That's really fascinating. I guess, if pressed, I might have thought Australia to be a wee bit larger than the US. I'm surprised.
And we have heard all manner of thoughts and ideas on gun control. The only thing we know for sure is that no one can agree on anything.

I wish there was more documentation and accountability for gun ownership in our country -- also better enforcement of the existing laws. Many lives could thus be saved. Thank you for your well reasoned opinions and well written article.

Thanks Mary Kay for coming along will look at the suggestions for changes. As I posted opinions are far and wide as to gun ownership but also anyone that wants one will get it however they can.

The US has very stict gun ownerships rules, but unfortunately they aren't enforced. If they were, we wouldn't have as many problems. I enjoyed reading your ramble. Thank you for your thoughts.

I knew our populations are quite different, but I did not realize our size is so similar. (I believe the U.S. population is over 300 million.) Thank you for the illustration to clearly prove the point. I agree that we need additional background checks before being able to buy weapons. -Joan

This is a most interesting "ramble" full of information as well as opinion and reasons clearly stated for the expressed opinions. It is true, as you say, that the two countries are similar in geographic size, yet so different in population. I think you have given your readers much to think about in this essay and I enjoyed it very much. I think my only suggestion would be to not repeat too often the assumption that "the reader will be aware" of what you are about to tell. It seems that any expression (or word) too often repeated within a short space soon calls attention to itself and away from the content or ideas you want readers to be focused upon. You do write very well and also must be an excellent editor. I see no typos or anything to correct in the work at all. I found this very interesting and enjoyable to read. MM

You make some interesting comparisons here. Your map overlay illustrates the relative size of the two nations well. I agree with you on the matter of gun control and find it hard to understand why more stringent criteria can't be introduced. Even here the access to high powered repeating action guns seems to be more general than it need be.

Thanks Tony for the great review. It is the heads that need examining. And also why the need for these semi-automatic weapons. As someone said them who want guns will get them by whatever means.

That is interesting to note--comparison of Australia in size to the U.S. Our larger population probably accounts for more gun violence. People seem to have a way of getting around the law if they want to get a weapon. They can get one by illegal means, even steal them. If people don't have guns, they find other ways to vent their hatred. Mentally disturbed people cause so much of the gun violence. These people need to identified and given help if possible. These are the potential killers. Your essay is very well organized and well thought out. judi

Thanks Judi, I have been thinking about this for along time. Gun control won't stop those who want to get them from doing so. Just a little more examination of the types who want licenses to won them might help.
