I really like the meaning of your poem. I also find that the last few weeks have been a little trying. It has been immense destruction, looting, violence. Something which has made our world up in arms.

This swap quatrain, Of Power, Words, and Actions, has the proper formatting and calls to point the seeming change in public sentiment toward Black Lives Matter movements that concentrate on society finally dropping barriers to equality in both mind and spirit.

"There are chameleons among us," my mother said on many occasions. My, haven't they pulled forward in packs! Oh that's right, it's the election year. Violence and hatred breed more of the same. That's all there is to it and we all matter. Why is it no one is speaking of the black police officer who was shot and killed during one of these violent protests? Man, that got sidelined in a hurry. I'm sorry, but this was just as heartbreaking, even more so. Thanks for standing tall, dear Diane.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sal xoxo

Great job. I know my father, now deceased changed his way of thinking over his lifetime and I actually witnessed it. He never really knew anyone of color, but fell prey to the jokes and stereotypes that others had. THEN, he had to supervise a man who ended up being not only one of his best workers at the telephone company, but a friendship ensued that lasted for years. My Dad finally admitted that people are just people and it was one of the best way he evolved over time. Your poem is wonderful and made me think of that joy in change. GREAT JOB!

It is funny what people see in this incident, what I saw was the injustice of the situation and I didn't see it as a race crime, this was an unnecessary death and the situation went from a simple arrest to an unlawful death in a matter of moments. Had the man been cooperative, then he would not have died, but the arrest got out of hand very quickly and I dare say there is much regret about the actions now. The rioting, killing and looting since has been appalling and I am thankful for the Police who tried to control the situation as many people's businesses have suffered and indeed I believe a retired black Captain in the Police was shot. Where is the support for this innocent man? This is not so much about racism as opportunists taking advantage to loot shops and kill others. There have been demonstrations all over the world now. Your message here has been delivered gently and a subtle way Diane and I enjoyed the form, the rhymes and the flow, love Dolly x

    Hello Dolly!
Thank you for your excellent rating and thoughtful review.
So much chaos. I just hope and pray that many of the most strident protestors - that I know - will remain steadfast in fostering change - in our land and in their hearts. For as I shared in my poem, it is difficult to stomach hypocrisy...
By the way, the next hurricane to hit the U. S. is to be called "Dolly!" :)

    Thank you!

This is a good poem to think about at this time. Some people are just for show and some are serious.
Your wrote it according to the instructions.
Good luck with it.

I like the idea of the sudden change in certain people. Is it for real or for show? It sounds similar to 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do '. Hypocrisy is an easy way to fit in whatever the situation. Excellent!

Hello Mrs.KT, first I thought you were reflecting upon our president, who no doubt is a bigot and hypocrite big time; a second reading gave me a better grasp of your bold message; the poem has great flow with excellent rhymes. It is said that, "The repentance of a hypocrite is itself hypocrisy." Superb poem, thanks for sharing.

I read your poem a few times and it sends a message
to someone that you might have worked with. I hope
that "All Lives Matter." not only black lives. I think we
will find more harmony, once All Lives Matter to everyone.
Thanks for sharing.

    Hello kleck!
    Thank you!
Yes. I did write this piece as if to send a message to not just one colleague, but a few. Difficult for me to read postings on social media or to see these individuals protesting when I know them to have treated former minority students with disdain. Now if they have fully changed their worldview, good for them. If not, then hypocrisy is alive and well, and they disgust me...
And yes, I, too believe "All Lives Matter," but apparently that is not politically correct... :)

Thank you for your excellent rating and thoughtful review.

Of Power, Words, and Actions

Hello my friend

Your poem is thought provoking but I'm not sure what your message is. I know it has to do with our present unrest and black lives matter movement.

    Hello Gypsy,
    Glad you stopped by.
I wrote this piece in response to viewing a number of former white colleagues who are now championing the Black Lives Matter movement and the protest surrounding George Floyd's murder/death, yet when I taught with them, they treated minority students with disdain. One in particular stands out = no empathy, no compassion, no positivity, and no shame in spewing her hatred when she thought she was among peers that were like-minded. Now, if she has changed, and I hope to God she has, great. But don't go about being a "white knight champion" just to gain acceptance or publicity or to be part of a movement when you didn't give a "rat's ass" for years... :)
    Whew!
    Thanks again, Gypsy!
