I have read this poem with interest because, I too, have written a poem titled "Over The Top" which I posted on the 30th of June, 2006.
In your free-thought writing, there is nothing to suggest changing and I wish you success with the book in which this will be included. The poem mentioned above is included in my book published in America titled "The Eleventh Hour."

The theme is heartwrenching. So many have given their lives in war. I just don't see why we feel war is the answer to anything. In my opinion, it does so much more harm than good. And how terrible do we treat our war heroes in this country? Great work-6 stars. Leigh Ann

Hi deepwater,
Interesting start to what appears to be a saga length account of the battles on the western front. As a military history buff, I would quibble slightly with you on one small point of detail, the war was still fairly mobile in the early stages. It was not until 1915-16 that it really bogged down when the Germans built their extensive trench systems in depth. The British kept their trenches fairly "temporary" always believing that the only way to win was to make that break through the German lines.

thank you Patrick for that as a bit of a buff myself like you the trenches came about 1915-1916 area onwords but still had them in france 1914

This is excellent. Perfect words, powerful enough for this kind of poem. I hope I get to read more of this. I don''t know much at all abour WW1. I study a lot of WW2 stuff. But your poem is quite interesting. Holds the readers interest. The writing is very well done. Great job.
