Overall this is a clever and beautiful metaphor. Life is like a game that has played out but there's still time to make something of our existence that is of real value. I thought this was very well thought out and beautifully written. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

This ultra-concise personal essay is thought-provoking and moving, a vivid blend of literal and figurative language about time and generations. We live and die with questions, as will the next generation--and the next.
As you say, we can do our part to make a good change before our time is up.

Are you the same Jesse James Doty that didn't think he could write decent prose? Nah, couldn't be. This is a stunner. Compelling and thought-provoking.

Interesting story you have written here. I have enjoyed reading it. A different kind of fiction story. Interesting and unique. Excellent work! No grammatical errors. Thanks for sharing!

What a very intriguing read, life's journey with fears of being replaced by knowledge, though we are human so we should not ever give up and continue to enjoy and contribute within our time, very well written with great artwork, very well done****kahpot

Food for thought in this well-constructed poem that I can relate with! Getting older is definitely something that needs to be written about - poetry isn't only for youth or love or nature's beauty.
I especially liked this part:
And nobody has lost or won, yet we remain on the playing field--
long after the rain has brought the game to an undesirable end.

Thank you for sharing!
Susan

Jesse,

This is a super free verse you have penned. Realistic, a bit dark and ends on that positive note, which is the best we could really hope for.

Depending on the defonition of righteous, noble and profound is...the world has its definition, God has His own.

Jesse, what a thoughtful piece! I like the image of life as a game on a playing field, with the game sometimes washed out and spoilt by life's events. But that is not the end, even in defeat, for there is an optimistic note, along with acceptance that the game has a limited time and other players will take over ... but there is till the role we play - making something righteous, noble and profound of our lives.

So am I, Ulla. I was addressing the younger generation, who look at those of us older than them, as a dying breed. Thank you for your thoughtful review and excellent rating.

-Good artwork to
go with your story, Jesse.
-It is well written and
poetic, too, a nice
combination.
-The opening line about
the hands chasing time
is a good image and hook
for your story.
-You have a good concluding
verse, too, although personally
I don't taste defeat, but I do plan
to do the best I can with my life.
-A good job with this.
