Hopefully they will get to the woman and children in time so they can be rescued from this evil person. I have never seen such a vicious person who licks his mouth at the thought of cruelty.

Bless your heart, thank you so much for reading another part, I'm so pleased you are still enjoying the story. I did some research on evil people and what I learned would chill the bones. Rapier is a pussy cat compared to some to them. I just hope I never meet one. But, in my book, good triumphs over evil!! Thanks again, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

This is an excellent post Sandra, so Rapier is on the island and ready to wreak his particular flight of fancy, which is to torture and kill his victims, and the others are on the mainland after rescuing a dog from a sinking house, and are looking for Jos'e's family, how exciting Sandra, you've rebuilt incredible drama in your story. Great write, blessings Roy

Thank you so much, Roy, for this really lovely review. Now many chapters left now, so a bit more drama before an ending which I hope everyone will love. Warm hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Well, I hope that Grant's dogs make a meal out of Rapier. I was wondering what he was thinking leaving Tania alone with a new mother, a newborn, and an injured man who tried to kill her. How would these be able to fend off such a seasoned killer. You certainly amped up the suspense with this chapter, especially by the need to stop and care for an injured dog!

Hi, Helen, thank you so much for this lovely review. Latifah's husband, Peter, is with them as well. He's no weakling when it come to a fight. But we have yet to see what happens. So many readers hope the dogs with eat him! Lol, I'm going to have to let them down ... a little bit! Warm hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Another gripping chapter. You have an exquisite sense of dramatic timing, when to suggest a little information, when not to. You've created one EVIL character, a definite psychopath.

Here are some notes as I read along.

Careful not to hurt the dog anymore than he already was, [ ANY MORE than he already was.]

That's a great scene with Grant rescuing the wounded dog. Examples like that do a world of good in strengthening Grant's character. Not that he needs a whole lot.

gulping in the stench of fear when he gagged [I'm not sure but that "gagged" might be going too far. The scent of fear, while good, is, as far as I know metaphorical, and yet he gags at it. Anyway, I'm just mentioning it so you can look at it. I might be the only one it affected thus.]

It had been kept well oiled [... kept WELL-OILED...]

Thank you so very much, Jay, for this really lovely review and all those stars. I'll correct those errors now.
'gulping in the stench of fear when he gagged [and tied her and the children to the roof support beams;] I didn't mean HE gagged, as in wanting to be sick, but when he 'gagged' Ann and the children. I read it again and could see how you would take it that way, I'll try to change the way it comes across. He has to gag them to stop them calling for help. Perhaps if I worded it, (stench of fear AS he gagged and tied her and the children....
Thank you so much, my friend. It's always a help to know how it reads from another readers POV. Warm hugs, Sandra xxxx

Oh, you see? I never thought of it as an act of gagging someone else!
reply by the author on 21-Jun-2021
What do you call it when someone puts something around your mouth to stop them talking? I've had a look to see if I can use another word but didn't find one. This is one of those many awful English words that has a double meaning. xxx
reply by Jay Squires on 21-Jun-2021
The problem is using "gag" as a verb or as a noun. In the latter you but a gag in someone's mouth.
reply by Jay Squires on 21-Jun-2021
Here it is: while he gagged and tied her and the children to the roof support beams; You could say, "while he gagged Anna and tied her and the children to the roof supports."

-An excellent chapter, Sandra,
and you really keep us on the
edge of our seats.
-Just enough to whet the appetite,
and then you give us another one,
including an injured dog that they helped!
-There are any number of adjectives and
expressions that could describe Rapier,
but pure evil will have to do!
-Jeff and Reg have some good ideas
about how to proceed, and they decide
on a course of action.
-Finally, I say "Hurray for the German shepherds!"
Rapier deserves whatever he gets! Seems he's
in a bit of a predicament! Hope it stays that way!!!
-Well done, my friend.

Thank you so much my dear Pam, for another of your thoughtful reviews. I really appreciate the way you go through the chapter and tell me what you liked about it. Those German shepherds have a part to play, they are, after all, Grant's guard dogs. I wouldn't want to tangle with them, though. Thank you again, my dear friend. Warm hugs, love Sandra xxx

You are very welcome and deserving of the stars and review, Sandra. I wouldn't want to mess with those dogs, either. I am sure they are very well trained! Hope they give it to Rapier!!

Oh, this was so good! I can't believe I have another week to wait to see if the dogs eat Rapier, or the remaining occupants of the house take him on. I'm a little surprised that Grant didn't think about the possibility that Rapier wanted to draw him off the island. He didn't leave one of his guys to be protection for the others. I'm sure they'll find Anna and the kids, but will it be too late to get back to the island and stop Rapier? Oh, the suspense!
I think Rapier is so egotistical he won't kill Tania on the spot, but instead either kidnap her (two kidnappings in one lifetime?) or he'll get too much of a thrill of torturing them, that Grant will return in time to save everyone. I kind of like the dogs eating him lol! Thank you Sandra for a delightful read! I hope you have another book in your mind for when this one is finished. Have a lovely week! Take care and be well, Sally

I have some really sadistic readers, Lol. so many of you want to see the dogs eat Rapier!! Lol. I love it that you are so into the story, Sally, and I love your reviews. As to Grant not suspecting what Rapier would do, wait for the next part. :)) Thank you so much, my friend, for another lovely review and the shiny six stars. I'm so pleased you have stayed with me all the way. Not too many parts left now. Warm hugs, my dear friend. :)) Sandra xxx

At first, I though maybe Anna and the children were in this floating house. If so, when it sinks, they'll be lost for good. I hope Grant thinks to check the attic when he finds the house. Rapier gives me goosebumps. I would want to meet up with him!!! I hope the dogs tear into him.

Aw, thank you, my dear sister, I've just finished writing you an email, and then I came back and see you've reviewed me. Lol.

Thank you so much for this lovely review, and for all the sixth star! Yes, Rapier is a real psychopath, and needs to be taken out soon. The thing is, sometimes a sane mind can out think a mad one. Let's see what happens when Grant starts to think. Thank you my dear SATP, your review put a big smile on my face. :)) Sandra xxxx

It was, wasn't it. Lol. We should start a club and bring those wonderful expressions back. :)) xx

Great idea. No one I know, other than my sons who grew up hearing them, remember words like bumbershoot, galluses (suspenders), etc.
reply by the author on 20-Jun-2021
Perhaps we should start a club on here of words that we used to use. That would be fun. :)
reply by the author on 21-Jun-2021
I've never heard of the word, galluses. That has to be an American word. Suspenders, that's the word we have always used. I'm going to double-check to see if we ever did use your word, though. This could be fun!

The chaos in the aftermath of the hurricane is well described and you maintain the tension throughout. I am wondering whether the dog's rescue will turn out to be significant or if it is just there as more evidence that Grant is Mr Niceguy. When he strips down to his pants the Brits will get one image and the Americans another. They will have him him wading in his chinos, while we have him in his underwear. Might I suggest he strips down to his boxers. He should present the same image to both cultures.

No, the dog is just an add on, and Grant will keep him. I thought that it would be good to drop in something that adds to the aftermath of a hurricane. I'll take your advice on the boxers, I take it they wear them in the US? The women wear thongs on their feet!!
Thanks so much for the sixth star, my friend, and the helpful sugestion. I'll give you a shout tomorrow about what day we can chat. Have you any preferences? Sending you a hug, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

You might say 'boxer shorts' I know they use that. Dustin Hoffman was always using it in 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.'
reply by the author on 20-Jun-2021
Yes, boxer shorts would be better. I'll do that. :)) xx

You packed a lot of drama into this chapter, Sandra. I enjoyed reading it. You did a great job keeping everything straight and keeping the story moving at a quick pace. The rescue of the dog was handled with finesse. I hope Anna and the kids are found before . . .I was engaged from start to finish and look forward to the next chapter.
Thanks for sharing.
