I would have to read this as my cat is dying. It set me off with tears.
A beautiful poem as a dog says his first final goodbye.
It is a heartfelt poem. Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes

Your concise, well-written poem describes movingly the fast friendship between a loyal pet and its loving friend/master. I find the last line to be especially memorable.

Your line above, letting go, even though it hurts speaks to me personally. I have lost companion animals such as my kitty, Emma, who was so important to me that it was the hardest thing to do to let go of her when she had to leave this earth. I still miss her though I have tried to let her go it is difficult to do so.
Now I have the remaining kitty in my life named Sunny who has stepped up to be number one in my life. I know it will be extremely difficult to lose her and I am dreading the day that she passes away.
By the way, I love your poem with its rhymes that say how hard it is to let go of your pets.
Thanks for the gentle reminder that we only live with our pets for a short time before they move on and we need to let go of them when they go.

Thank you so much. It's never easy letting your pet go. I wrote this to help ease some of the pain I was watching my patient's owners go thru.

I can relate to this one, having lost a much loved Labrador nearly three years ago. I could identify with every sentence, and I saw both your tender love and your pain. Well written. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Losing a pet is always traumatic for the family as we grow accustomed to having them around and there is a great feeling of grief and loss when they die, a heartfelt and poignant write, love Dolly x

This spiritual poem, Paw Prints on Your Heart, follows the required rhyme scheme and give s narration to the loyal family dog who rightly states his effect on all who would know him. Nice.
