You did a great job with your contest entry, Mystery
Author. Your rhyming couplets flow well with smooth
rhymes. Each couplet creates and/or answers many of
the issues the world--asp the USA is experiencing now.
There's so much hate and divisiveness, and politicians
play that up hoping to get more on their side. You examples
create great imagery. Yes, mot are negative due to the state
of our society. However, many, if not all, could be helped
greatly if people followed you advice. It does take examining
oneself and changing for the better which many refuse to do
or believe it would help.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

Hi Jan, I thank you for reading my poem and for the lovely review of it. I appreciate so much your comments as it's reassuring to feel that others have so many of the same views on the subject. I agree with you greatly that so much of it is created by politicians and how they have seemed to mock the words that we are to follow from our God. The News seems to raise all these questions and opinions and here at home as I hear my husband get so upset about the dishonesty, then sometimes he is one that I am talking about in my poem. Lol, I think I added a line about him in the poem since you read it. But it goes something like this. " We are all human and all can get uptight, but some just need to grumble from the morning to the night." I can be naughty too. Hehe! So anyway I boycotted the news back a couple years ago and only get my news from a Christian based app called CBN. At least what I hear, I know is truthful and not after ratings. Thank you again my friend.

love this short and powerful poem about empathy, the ability to put oneself in another's shoes and understand what they are going through. So sad that we have leaders who lack this important skill.

Thanks so much Jake. As always you so kind! Yes, I couldn't agree more about our leaders. That is where I have a bit of a problem being positive. But then evil isn't a positive thing! Thanks my friend for the very kind review!

In order to please God well, you must first empty yourself of all the false pride that gets in the way of you seeing where you stand when standing next to or before the one who created everything. Consider the vastness of just the world that we live in, then consider the one who created not only that world but may more in addition. Feel small yet? Despite all that might, he deigned to love us much more than we could ever love him. The love we endeavor to show him, if it is heartfelt is enough. Fell grateful and blessed yet? You should.

Thanks Nomi! It seems that you truly got the message that I was trying to convey. It is hard for me to hear people judging, negative thoughts, and hurting each other, so I boycotted the news. I get my news from a Christian news site called CBN. Then I used to love football, but after the 2020 ordeal here in our state where one prideful show off cop here in our city killed George Floyd, all Hell broke loose here in MN and peaceful protests became a killing spree and a friend's father was killed trying to save the business he had worked hard for all his life and the people were riled up by an organization that made things even worse here. All because of one lousy cop with control anger issues. Anyway then on the season opener of our Vikings vs the Packers, the Packers never came out of the locker room for the National Anthem and might has well have spit on the American flag and all of you who fought to protect it. Our MN nice just got worse as the other day after my excitement that Roe v Wade was overturned our president and then our governor announced that anyone was welcome to come here for abortions.
While already going through a rough week of my own, I knew that by writing a poem about it and praising God for giving me a full cup despite bad health issues, but many blessings for even the bad times, as those are still lesson's learned. So Nomi, just needed a friend to talk to, so sorry for going on and on, but I appreciate the kind review . And writing about it helped too, so thank you for listening to my view of truly wishing people understood more about brotherly love and not judging those that they don't understand. Evil is evil and I guess people will see that only God gets to judge. Thanks for listening my friend.

You are very welcome. I spent time in Minneapolis during 1963 & 1964. I love it so much that I was very much interested in settling down ther, but my mom begged me to come back home to Detroit to help her out with expenses, so I did and never got a chance to go back. I now live on the West Coast in California.

Hello author, you've penned a most thought-provoking poem with good rhyming couplets. Of special note:

Does a different opinion make you a judge?

(Poet, I don't think that a different opinion makes a person a judge. We all have different opinions and different ways of doing something. Different means just that different--not bad, just different.)

Also:
Take a look in their eyes and see what they see
Then peek in their heart and see their debris

(Poet, the eyes tell all, and if we are lucky enough to see into a person's heart, we'll know all there is to know--no explanation needed.)

And:
Yet telling someone, what they want to hear
Is also dishonest and not being sincere

(Poet, this is so very true.)

And:
Keep your cup full; fill one who is empty
You will be amazed how you'll always have plenty

(Poet, excellent words to live by. There are so many ways to fill another's cup. Just sharing here ... my mom use to say that a loaf of bread goes eight ways.)

Well-chosen photo. Poet, you've given us a lot to think about. As this is a writing prompt entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

Thanks so much Margaret. I appreciate your lovely review and words
I like how you picked parts of my poem to respond to. I do know many who believe that their opinion gives them the right to judge, and the fact that they're so self righteous, they don't budge. But on the bright side, I know many, but one of my four sisters is so sweet and I can see in her heart! Maybe not literally, but her heart is pure as gold. And as much as I love all of them, her and I are the closest. And that's what I wanted people to get from my poem, so that they look within themselves as well as the heart and souls of others. Because they truly cheat themselves out of the kind of love that you can find in others if you just take the time to look.
Thank you again my friend for your very kind comments!

A thought provoking poem to ponder and look within. We probably can find ourselves on several lines.
I think you have covered the requirements of the prompt with wisdom of the human condition.

Well done.
Blessings

Janet, thank you so very much for the very lovely review. Lol, a lot of this was directed at my husband when he watches the news, as I myself boycotted it. There's nothing I can do about it but pray, yet we are all human. But thank you again my friend!

These are well done rhyming couplets that remind us we have all judged or thought our opinion more important than everyone else's. But that is never true. We need to be honest with ourselves as well as others. Faiht and prayer helps us follow the right path.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Joan, thank you so very much for the very lovely review. Lol, a lot of this was directed at my husband when he watches the news, as I myself boycotted it, since I always left the room anyway. It stresses me out to hear the bad stuff all the time. There's nothing I can do about it but pray, yet we are all human.
But thank you again my friend!

You are most welcome. I stopped watching the news for the same reason.
My husband watches CNN all the time. He keeps me up on what he thinks I should know.

The only opinions that I will hold to, can be ratified in the Bible, I will scold someone who speaks against poliyivuans, because they are our neighbours too. I will not judge someone who is being tried for a crime, they may, or may not have committed, if I have an opinion, I am judging. Both these are clearly wasting one's breath, mind and heart, there are others, But you get it, beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

Thanks Roy for a very lovely review. I truly try to live my life by these values here, but I ending up scolding my husband when he's watching the news. When it comes to the words from the Bible, I will speak up every time as I can't handle anyone putting it down. Last week was pretty mortified when my bubble was popped after hearing of the Roe v Wade overturned. Just to hear our president and governor vowing to undo the injustice as our state leader invited people to come into our state to have their abortions.
So I usually leave the room when the news comes on as I boycotted in a couple yrs ago. I have a news app I get mine from called CBN and at least I know it's real and it's Christian. Thank you for your kind comments my friend.

You've put together a well-rhymed, cogent presentation of those things that do or do not bring about true dialogue, without bias--or the reverse when we leap to conclusions or walk away labeling instead of trying to understand.

Each of your couplets rings true and offers us a chance to reflect upon where we fall within your descriptions. Society at large would benefit from a lot less reactionary rhetoric and much more empathy and kindness.

Hi there Karenina. Thank you so much for your lovely review and just wanted to say I was having a kinda bad day when I wrote this with many things coming my way, so I went in subtracted a few lines and added some and toned in down a bit. If you have a chance, I would appreciate if you took another look. And no you didn't say anything that made me feel like you were judging me, but just felt the need to tell you that. I just appreciate how sweet you are and I thank you so much for being so forever kind. ( : D )
