This is a sensitive write filled with honour and loyalty. Roberto was a brave man but perhaps a little foolish to tackle an armed man like this, but his instinct to protect others kicked in. I am glad the guy was convicted but I feel sad for this man who would have gone on to do great things. Your memory is keen and I really enjoyed your well written and sensitive story. I wish I had a six left for you, a fine entry for the contest, love Dolly x

Thanks Mystery voter. They do train us to observe accurately in those situations but I?m certain that Buitrago would not have been able to live with himself if Larry killed the woman to get her car. Bad situation. I try to put myself in his shoes and fear that I would have done the same.

This is the best tribute I have read to date. What an amazing, fearless man was your friend who stood by his motto, "Semper Fidelis". I am sure he would be honoured.
A powerfully woven story that is descriptive and gritty and yet, under all that pain, there lies an uplifting, joyous conclusion in meeting your wife through Buitrago.

This is the best tribute I have read to date. What an amazing, fearless man was your friend who stood by his motto, "Semper Fidelis". I am sure he would be honoured.

Thank you for this. I have problems with people who kill those who are sworn to protect them. My son-law, 18 years officer was hurt during a drug bust, and draws disability from that incident. So glad you pay tribute to your fallen buddies.

Thank you Ben. I spent 23 long years on the streets and was injured various times. Was shot at and had knives pulled on me, not to mention the many fist fights. I don't think the public quite understands what being a cop means. All the focus goes on the few bad apples. I hope it swings back around for our boys in blue. I appreciate you and let your son-in-law know that his service is still appreciated by the majority.
