Just reading the author notes let me see his brilliance. I love a sarcastic wit and he was king of it. This was a wonderful introduction to the man I know little about. Thank you for sharing. Gretchen

Thank you so much Gretchen! You would love his work and wit. This means a lot to me. Take care Debbie. "The Importance of Being Earnest" has so many amazing quotes in it you'd be laughing all the way through. Another genius who died too young. Debbie

Oscar Wilde is an icon for elegance, flair, and most particularly - wit. I recently read some Wilde biography - tempestuos, if not wild - and was surprised to learn how tall he was; for some reason, I had always figured he'd be smallish, but it turns out he was well over six feet.
Humans often have difficulties making judgments about sexual behavior, and groups of humans excite these difficulties unto a different, more distressing level. Oscar Wilde was the victim of such flaws in those who judged him, and the lesson is that 'different' should never of itself suggest 'wrong.'

People who live with their imagination on their shirtsleeves are likely to get polar responses to their behavior - many will love them, but some will hate them.

His was a sad end to a life of flamboyance and fun. His genius at poetry will always be recognised as one of his greatest feats. He died a lonely, broken man, in a country not of his own. So sad. Your poem tells of his life in a sad, but pleasant way. Well done. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you so much, Sandra, for your kind review and thoughtful comments! He was a true genius and every one of his quotes that I've read speaks of his immense wisdom and perception. And, despite his treatment, he remained a very loving and forgiving man. Thanks again for your time, Debbie

Aha, I see what you're doing now! Another neat bit of rhyme and rhythm and a clever summation of one of our great wits. I like your style. You make the form seem effortless. (I think my favourite is: There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.)

Thank you so much once again, John! Yes, I was on a bit of a roll (Got one on Elvis too :))!) Wilde was amazing wasn't he? So many great quotes and all standing the test of time. Thank you once again. Take care Debbie

This should have never happened to him, to be imprisoned for his sexual preferences. This poem is well written and very interesting as well...I shall look into this man further. Thanks for sharing. :)

Thank you so much for your kind rating and thoughtful comments! All greatly appreciated. Do try to look into this absolute genius of a man with fascinating, albeit all too brief, life. His wealth of quotes are amazing in their wit and remain very current today. Take care Debbie

You have chosen a memorable subject for your milestone post, and you have done this brilliant writer justice in your poem and notes. I especially liked the way you built your poem around quotes of Oscar Wilde's own words. Very fitting. kay

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is really fantastic! I did not know much personal stuff about Oscar Wilde but now feel that I do!

This one was the best:
He even said to love oneself
Would start a life's romance!

Also cracked up at:

He said he'd nothing to declare
Except his genius!

Great writing. A six for me!

Hi Debbie,
This is a well rhyme found poem that uses the quotes to tell a good story.
This many was an egomaniac it seemed. But that is not what put him in jail. It is sad that one was once jailed for homosexuality.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Congrats on your milestone post number 50.

This was a very interesting poem. It flows very well and is easy to read. I learned a lot from your poem and author notes. I think it was great that you gave us all of that information in the notes. I'm sure you will be forgiven for your paraphrasing, as I thought that you did a fine job, and I am certain he would feel that way, as well.
