80 years of life have taught me that life is basically a crap shoot. I have taken vaccines of just about every type, I have gotten sick but I did not die or come down with any crippling diseases. So, I plan to continue getting the shots. Until I die or diseases are wiped out I will line up for the shot.

Well, I'm getting mine when I go for my doctor's appointment on October 12th. I'll get as many as they give me. I'm 84 and it's free! I'm not going to try to second-guess the doctors.

"Get a flu shot, and you have a 100% chance of not getting the flu. Don't get a flu shot; you have a 100% chance of not getting the flu." Stunning Logic! The only time I had Covid it was after I was fully vaccinated and boosted. The symptoms were mild as they could be.

I got it last Thursday. [At first, I thought you got the flu last Thursday. You might want to change it to, "I got my shot last Thursday." Or not.

a good satirical piece, Terry. It would do good ... you know where.

Jay

You got my last star of the week. You are brave to say out loud to all and sundry that you do not tow the line and do things without thinking. Far too many people live in fear. I have severe allergies and avoid anything "new" that is offered to go into my body.
I am disabled and live alone. I don't answer the door closely. I step back. I have a mask at the door. I do most all my shopping online. I have deliveries weekly.
Two maids come once a week. I am careful. I have had no covid shots. I am over 60. I did not get covid. My inaws all got the shots, they all got covid, but it was mild. Do the math. Quarantine and masking and purell saved the day. But people are back to there no washing their hands behavior. The learning curve is too steep for some. Karen

Karen, thank you for the six stars. I am glad you have not got Covid. Mine lasted a week and it was not fun. Terry.

I always get my flu shots, COVID shots, and whatever my doctor (who is my cousin) tells me to get. I haven't had the flu for years, and so far, I have dodged the bullet where COVID is concerned. I don't know if it's the shots, or if I just have a good immune system. I seldom got sick before I took all those vaccinations. Who knows.

This is a fun article on picking a vaccine to avoid dying from something. I really don't know much about any of these medicines other than, no ever said getting a COVID shot would prevent you from getting COVID. It should prevent you from DYING from it. As of July of this year, out of 99,596,741 cases reported, there were 1,104,000 deaths. That's one percent. If I had to guess, those folks weren't immunized because they knew the truth about vaccines.

I work at a pharmacy. I've had all but the latest covid and I'm not going to get it. I've had covid 4 times. Twice it was hell and twice I hardly knew I was sick. It's a crap shoot at best. Get it if it makes you feel better. Don't get it if you don't believe in it. Never trust the government for your well being. Lol. This was probably the most informative piece I've read on the subject. I don't even want to talk about rsv. Enjoyed. Gretchen

The funny is I don't know if it works or not, I didn't have an infection for years before Covid, and despite being in my daughter's house where Covid was dwelling with my youngest grandson, (who had no symptoms) I never caught it all the time it was rabid, so there you go, thanks for a.most amusing post Terry, blessings Roy

Ha! Works doesn't work. Flu, Covid, hot nurse, old doctor, don't care. What I do care is that it remain my choice to get it or not to get it. As the last true American Independent I say, you can not make me get a shot. And you can not prevent me from getting one.

Funny, real piece, and you did not have to mention your wiener.

You're on fire with your posts, Terry, and this one also deserves a six but, sadly, I have none. It is so topical and interesting to me because I stopped at number 3 booster but my husband has just had no 7 as well as a flu jab. I've always believed in our own immune system fighting off these viruses and never really trusted the vaccine makers who are clearly out to make as much money as possible while we continue to be their guinea pigs. Your posts always delight and amuse no matter what the topic. And in this case you've helped me make up my mind on something as I was beginning to get swept along in the hysteria. Well done and thank you, Terry. The image is perfect, by the way, and a perfect follow-on from your last post:) Debbie

You're on a roll today Terry! The truth about vaccinations is there will be enough data to "suggest" they are all most essential...of most likely helpful...or on occasion may cause side effects. (Hmmm--spin the wheel and take your chances!)

It seems most doctors get the same talking points, as just about everyone I've chatted with about the new COVID booster has told me their doc said what mine did--which is ironically what your doc said--
Some version of "Why not? It couldn't hurt."

Hmmm. I don't think I'd buy a ticket on the Titanic with that kind of endorsement.

So of course I went off trying to find the "truth" behind all the hoopla!

Hah!

CBS.com had this little blurb:

"The FDA's decision to consider Covid boosters without human data is in line with how it evaluates modified vaccines for influenza each year. Clinical studies in humans aren't required for the approval of seasonal influenza vaccines, even when they're reformulated for strain changes, said Dr. Jesse Goodman of Georgetown University, a former FDA vaccine chief."

Oh. Well okay then?

Same article, another ditty:

"There's no reason to think they'll be unsafe," said Dr. Celine Gounder, an infectious disease specialist at NYU Langone Health in New York City."

This is almost precisely what my dad told me when I balked at trying my two wheeler without training wheels. Again... Not exactly the scientific framework I'd hang my hat on!

I was leaning...back and forth.

Then this expert chimed in, same article:

"Still, the flu vaccine isn't a fair comparison, said Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine expert at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The FDA's policy on influenza shots is based on decades of experiences with strain changes where the flu vaccines behaved generally in the same way. The U.S. is still on its first iteration of the Covid vaccines, and the mRNA technology has only been in widespread use since late 2020."

Oh dear Hummingbirds in pretty photos!

Now that everything is clear as mud, my hand scientific plan is to hold off until November-ish and keep a close eye on anyone I know who has gotten the new (semi-mice-improved?) Covid booster...

(My own version of human trials, she said snarkily)

BTW--let me know how you do with that RSV vaccine! My doc is telling me I ought to really go for it. Hmmm. I'll wait to see how you do.

(smile)

Five years ago before the new Shingrix vaccine, my doctor insisted I get the older version. It worked...(kind of)--within five days I had Shingles!

I do not get the flu from the flu shot. Technically nobody can as it's no longer an attenuated (weakened" virus...it's a dead one. Still, I hear it all the time!

With or without Covid shots, and boosters I have had COVID more than a few times.

Each time it was relatively mild and hence medical folks told me that was because I'd gotten the vaccine.

It's like trying to prove a negative.

    Makes me batty.

    (Battier!)

    LOL,
