I remember him best for the his White Christmas and the in the movie High Society where he sang True Love to Grace Kelly. He had a wonderful voice and I'm glad your reminded me of Bing. I can't imagine him as a lawyer. His Christmas album is playing right now on my Alexis.

This was a great reminder of one of my favorite all time male singers, Debbie. Who can forget that unique voice and the way he would scoop some of his notes in such inimitable fashion as in "White Christmas?" I also loved him in Going My Way and his reprisal in the same role as Father O'Malley in The Bells of Saint Mary's.

This was another wonderful poem in your brilliant series of famed artists.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas tomorrow! - Jim

Gold stars. Good research and writing. I have alerted folks about Kathy( Bill schotts wife) and Sandra. Jesse James Doty is home from his spine operation and is recovering ahead of schedule. Paul Manton is home again after another very bad infection. Season's greetings seems kind of ironic. Love and prayers to you and yours. Karen

Bingo! I love tribute poems, especially those that incorporate the titles of some of the artist's greatest hits. It provides, I think a wonderful introduction to the artist for those unfamiliar with the artist's work.

Oh, my goodness!! Another GREAT choice!

The meter of this one was sharp and staccato, so I imagined it being recited by a group of girls as they skipped rope --a wonderful endeavor, and as Old Timey as Der Bingle, himself! It made this SO unbelievably fun to read. Try it, yourself; I know you'll see exactly what I mean.

Do you have favorite Bing movie? For me, it's White Christmas, which I'm just about to watch again. It's Bobby's and my holiday movie indulgence. So, so fun!

Anyway, you made this fresh and interesting and full of tidbits that I never knew about this amazing man. Thank you, as always, for starting out my Sunday on a lovely high, Miss Talent.

Would you believe, Debbie, that I am reading your exceptionally well-crafted poem while watching "White Christmas?" Too funny! Parts of it are a bit corny, but when the soldiers sing "We'll follow the old man..." I become a puddle! The captain reminds me of my own father!

Bing Crosby truly was a talented singer and actor. I have read about the controversies regarding his use of corporal punishment on his children = always makes me sad...

Thank you for sharing!
Merry Christmas, Debbie!

Debbie D, I never feel worthy to review your poetry so I will simply applaud this tribute. I have always been a fan of Bing Crosby and count Going My Way and Bells of St. Mary's and two of the best films of all time. I wish you a very Merry Christmas and look forward to reading your 2024 posts.
Cheers,
John

I notice that you don't have your song titles in bold - an oversight?

I will always associated Bing Crosby with the song "White Christmas". My father and mother loved the man, but I grew up hearing too many stories of his abuse of his children and wives to like him.

But like Bob Hope, he entertained the troops and brought joy to their dark existence.

Have you ever seen the tape of him performing "Little Drummer Boy" with David Bowie? I remember seeing it performed live on TV and thinking it was just weird that those two came together, lol!

I may not be a fan of Bing's, but I'm a fan of Debbie's! Another great job of researching and writing of celebrities.

Merry Christmas!

Oh Pam, you wouldn't believe how many times I checked it and you've caught me out again! Thank you so much for that and for your wonderful review. I have seen that recording and can hear it in my head as I write. It's always a bit of a worry to say too much about this abuse and biographies always err on the side of caution but I'm going to add to my notes. It's a great shame because he was such an influence during the war and all his music (exceptionally) seems to be full of positive, endearing sentiment (but maybe that's the trick:( ) A very Merry Christmas to you too and thank you so much for all your support this year! Sometimes people find it easier to be kinder to strangers than to those they should hold dear. Maybe he thought he was doing the right thing, but I've never believed in striking a child (or spouse). You can teach them with words and actions far better than your fist.

Happy Christmas with a six for your lovely, lyrical tribute. This flows beautifully and reminded me of those great songs, even though he was never a patch on Sinatra! Well done. X

Thank you so much, John, for this wonderful review! I was considering not posting because it's gone so quiet but the verse was all about Christmas so I felt obliged. I'm so sorry to hear about Paul and, no doubt, he's kept a lot quiet about his health issues. That said, relieved he's now home with, hopefully, someone to look after him. Take care and have a restful Christmas (albeit a disappointing one - I'm sure the snow will come once the rain and wind stop:)) Debbie x

Yes, Bing is the perfect choice for this time of year since his song, Dreaming of a White Christmas was one of his all-time best.
He worked hard at his image although it was tainted by his lust for the many women in his life. He was known as a Catholic boy but in reality, he was anything but religious. Let's face it he chased the skirts more than any other singer when that was held secret from the press.
I loved his crooning voice it melted butter so it was told. He was a family man to all but those who knew him well.
Thanks for sharing this great singer's life and career.
Jesse

Thank you so much, Jesse, for this wonderful review which I greatly appreciate! I wonder, because of his huge wealth, whether the press kept quiet for fear of litigation. All the biographies I've read err on the side of caution. Once again I'm very grateful for all your informed views. I wish you all the very best in your continued recovery. Have a wonderful, relaxing Christmas! Debbie

I'll bet doing these singer biographies helps you to realize how stressful their lives were during their most famous days.
    Happy Holidays!

Absolutely, Jesse! I know they've often gone astray during their careers and, clearly, Bing certainly wasn't all he was cracked up to be. But when you have that degree of limelight and expectation, I wonder how anyone can survive. And the very fact that they're so talented suggests passion inside that can't always been properly channeled. Happy Holidays to you too. Think 2024 is really set to look up for you. Debbie
