Thank you for sharing this review with us. Yes, it makes one wonder if they even read the review. I have some people I read who never even bother answering the review. As for promoting my writing, I have figured out, mathematically how many member dollars I need to earn each week to promote my work. I then divided by seven, for seven days in the week, and force myself to review until I reach that daily amount of member dollars. some days it takes forever when everybody posts 1 point 2 member dollars, when I always post high. I enjoyed reading and couldn't find any way to improve this post.

Thank you, Barbara. I like your idea of how you calculate your reviewing out over the week. I?m still working almost 50 hours a week so I try to write, post and review when and where possible.

Thank you so much for being a fan and friend!

I couldn't do it while I was working. I'm retired now so it's easier.

I think you've brought up some great points that I personally agree with wholeheartedly. RESPECT. It isn't hard to give and everyone deserves it, until they don't. I've had a few people get after me for always saying "Thanks for sharing" at the end of everything I review. But for me, I certainly appreciate the time they spent to write and share. And, John, Thanks for sharing.

Usually somewhere in my response I say the same as you, thank you for reading and sharing. Those words ring true for me (and obviously for you).

Sometimes I add a - thanks for stopping by.

So thank you for stopping over!

Sometimes, I do think a person could show more respect for the writer. When I read your work, and I always make it a point to do so, I marvel at the way you build an appetite as well as a challenge to prepare a dish like you normally mention. I never grade how it is written but the depth of what you are saying. Sometimes, I can smell the food baking in the oven.
Good one, John.

Chef John,
Thank you for adding to the book and for underscoring the need for good manners and respect in giving and receiving reviews. I completely agree. The only time I don't give a lengthy response to a review is in a blind contest. I don't want to give myself away.

Always a pleasure, my friend.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sal :))

John, I do see your point. Maybe because back in my misspent youth, I hung out in Texas bars.

The worst are those who don't even respond to your review.

The most irritating "Thank You" is when you offer a suggestion, and go back and look and see they accepted it and changed the post.

On rare occasions, I do just say "Thank You." Normally, I reserve that answer when it's pretty clear to me the reviewer really didn't read the story very close or perhaps not at all. Good job. Terry.

Hey, John. What a great lesson you are giving here. I, as a newbie on this site, really appreciate how you aired your feelings, and appropriately so. I will, from this day forward, try to be more thoughtful when replying to a review. In fact, I might go back and do a little editing. Thanks again. Jeano

    Jeano,
Welcome to FS. I hope you enjoy your time here. Normally I respond much, much sooner but I worked a long shift today and I?m beat.

You?ll meet a wonderful bunch of writers and people here. Take it all in slowly to enjoy
Thanks for reading and sharing and for those glittering sixes! They illuminated my keyboard.

I like your artwork and the ideas you have shared. Thank you is such a simple thing to say, but it's even nicer when they comment on something they like or share an idea of what it reminds them of, etc. You give a nice shout out to the writers who posted before you did. You also point out the different genres their work represented.

If I was a new member, I would appreciate the information very much. You give a good overview in the closing paragraphs, and make a very good point at the end. Thanks for sharing it, John.

Hello, John!

Reading these sentiments, I would say you're telepathically plagiarizing my thoughts, and I beg you to get out of my head before I call the FS police to your doorstep. Lol.

All kidding aside, I know precisely where you're coming from, and this is a good mindset to start with if you are new or otherwise to this talented (yourself included) community of writers.

Although you still haven't posted a pasta and fish recipe for us! Hahaha! Unforgivable! Best, JohnC

Thank you for not calling the FanStory Fuzz (haha).

I appreciate your stopping to read and share your thoughts.

    Cheers,

My dear Brother,
we live a world apart, but think and act as, well... Brothers. Respect is not just a word, it's a life choice. I've heard it said, respect has to be earned, but I don't believe that to be the case... well, not all of the time. I give respect freely until disrespect come into my field of vision... because respect is a two way road, as you know.

I'm sure we've all had the short 'thank you for the review'. It makes me smile to myself, but I never take it personally... maybe they are just really busy people, or better still, have no typing skills... and then there are the writers who couldn't possibly return even a thank you for reviewing me... because they have put that much money on their posts that there is a wild frenzy to collect the member bucks. I have trouble replying to twenty or so. I can only imagine the sixty plus reviews they get...hmmmm, wonder do they even read their reviews, or is it just a rating ploy? Well, I'm not going to put too much thought or effort into the workings of another writer's mindset... I have struggle enough just to keep up with mine.

You're a good man John. I love your honesty, and I love your manner... I love your posts and the way you tease us with mouth-watering recipes, how could one not love that!

I must also say, the cut and paste replies have also darken my doorstep on occasion... again, I just shake it off, 'cause I can never assume what may have caused said writer/writers, to use that method of no imagination... after all, we are supposed to be writers. Writers with creative minds... so yeah, that makes me smile as well.

I guess I'm just a smiley guy!

I'm wondering how long it will be until I start seeing AI entering our arena, it seems to be popping up everywhere else, why not here?

I could stay on with this review for much longer, but... you know the old chestnut... If you can't say something nice about someone, then.....

Always interested in your opinion John... I actually respect it as much as what and how I respect you. So thank you for sharing and adding to this Multi-Author Book, Advice to New FanStorians... and really the title should also include old FanStorians as well, there's a few who could learn a few things from the ten chapters written.

With our thoughts we create...
the thread that binds us.

Kindest regards,
James.

    Jame, my brother?
So sorry for this late response. I posted late last night (USA time) and then worked a 12 hour day. I?m beat. But I did want to tell you that I appreciate your reading my post and sharing how you feel. Though we may not agree on everything, I?m cool with that! It?s the bond and respect we maintain among each other.
This AI business is scary. Before this job, my wife and I would go food shopping every Saturday morning together. When she would start the car, on the navigation screen (without any of her doing) it would prompt and tell us the roads had no traffic and it was 8 minutes to the ShopRite (supermarket).
    What the hell, man?

I?m not sure what type of world my grandkids are getting. My daughter?s house is all "Google" prompted. When my grandson, Jackson (5yr) come home from school, the first words from his mouth is "hey Google, turn on the kitchen lights and turn on the TV".

Sorry for bending your ear, I apologize. How you feeling my brother? I miss reading your poetry. You know, the ones I cannot understand. Believe me I try. I can?t write a bogus review just to collect the $$$. That?s not me. But I do read them. Like I?ve written, your pinky has more talent than my six foot frame.

    Jeez, I?m still rambling?

    Be well, stay safe,

Hey what?s your favorite food or go to dish? I?m looking to cook and write what writers on the site enjoy! I?d love to include you and Jade!

Sorry, I?m done. Go give your wife a hug!

    Cheers,
    John

Hey John, didn't want to leave you just hanging... and I don't think it is a late response.

The thing is with opinion, everyone has one my dear Brother, as you say it's the bond of respect and care we share for each other that is the important element... which by the way, I cherish.

I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to technology... I don't even have a mobile phone, so yes, AI scares me just tah little bit. My mind goes to the movie, The Terminator... I can't help it, I'm a movie lover who may immerse himself within the plot a little too much:)
So the story of your wife and grandchild yes, that's the beginning of?.... The end? Sorry, told you, can't help my overactive mind at times.
And with the bogus reviews, I'm the exactly the same John... we're old school my Brother... and hey, stop selling yourself short... I know it's a wonderful compliment, but you my dear friend are very talented... don't worry about my pinky, your pinky's all that and much more. Six foot frame eh... so it's eye-to-eye then my Brother... and now it's me who is still rambling... but I didn't think you were rambling, so hmmmm, maybe it's just me going on? Jeez
You and your family be well and stay safe also John.

    Did someone say food?
I'm off to Brisbane tomorrow, an all dayer. I have to pick up my father's ashes and death certificate so I can start arrangements for the memorial... so I'll get back to you about the favorite food... Jade and I will discuss it on our journey tomorrow.

You're a good man John... love you Brother!
