I was a Girl Scout and earned a lot of badges. And we went as a family to "Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. In Texas, we keep all our sites pristine. At least they were the last time I went. I am sorry you visit was marred. Karen

This is a well-written story. I guess others have been there before. The story showed the excitement of the scouts trying to earn their badges. The prospect of exploring a part of a cave they thought no one has ever been before gave this story drama. Nice story.

Aww, that was a sad ending, but typical of todays explorers. They have to leave their rubbish strewn all about. The story was excellent, and I was really with them going down that path that no one had been down before. Well done, John, this was a great story the Locate writing club. :)) Sandra xx

What a fine build-up for the explorers, enchanted by Joel's stirring words and their own imaginations. I love the stunningly expressed para starting "Some cave explorers..." Should it be in inverted commas? Then the harsh reality suddenly striking them after discovering the fast food waste..! Your story is enjoyably written and well structured so that the conclusion has the necessary and unexpected impact. Well done, John, and a great entry for the club! Take care Debbie

One never knows. I remember my first experience with the caves. We crossed in a boat underground and came out in the state of Kentucky. Wow. Now that was something. The fish uunderground, you could see through them. they were blind as well, something i will always remember. Thanks, John, for sharing this story.

I did a little research in order to write this and I was amazed at what I read that appears in different caves across the United States.
I've only been in one, in the Poconos many years ago. It was breathtaking... and cold!

I was driving for Greyhound and took a charter to the New York Worlds fair in 1963 and we stopped off at the cave I mentioned.
