Not an Extrovert

I always felt more at ease with one friend at a time.

You and I are more alike than Id like to admit, but being estranged from my fellow men has been a blessing in disguise to me. They drink and fuss and cuss and do improbable things to each other. Going solo may be lonely at times, but an active mind is never alone.

Oh come on. What wrong with being a lot like me. I'm not so bad. I've noticed some of our thinking isn't so different.
I'm alone most of the time but I've nerver felt alone. I don't hate people, I just like to deal with them one at a time.

I agree wholeheartedly. I thought that is what I meant to have understood.

You've always got such great stories to tell and you capture the whole essence of your personality here so well! I'm glad the unexpected celebration didn't change you. You tolerated it but remained true to yourself. Personally, I've never understood the idea of being in a large group when you can't communicate properly and are just surrounded by noise and, in the case of girl, that tends to be high-pitched! And a great retort to your mother! Perhaps one too many "gottens" in the para starting "I had not mentioned" (maybe a contraction there (I'd). Your punctuation can be a little off at times, e.g. Maybe they'd never noticed (no need for a comma there); Like most teenagers(,); I thanked Mom (no need for a comma); But(,) thankfully. Well done, Beth, and good luck! Debbie

Thank you Debbie. I really appreciate your nice review and the help you offer. I corrected the things you suggested. I guess i tend to put in too many commas. Someone said I shouldn't use the word 'that'. I've been leaving it out but it feels like it needs a comma in its place.

It sounds to me like you went to school with a stellar bunch of women. Perhaps they gave you your space when you needed it, but still considered you one of them because they had grown up with you. I think you were very lucky.

Thanks for sharing this true story, and I wish you luck in the contest.

Thank you Pam. I wouldn't go so far as to say any of us were stellar. We were typical for the times. A lot of my class were country kids. Some of the girls dads were going to the local Baptist college studying to be preachers. The kids from weathy family were in the ninth or eleventh grade. We only had one of those.

How very nice of your mother. It demonstrated great love. I'm glad that you took it in stride publicly. It could have gone very badly.
Very nicely written story. Thank you for posting it.

Thank you Wayne. I know my mother loved me but she wanted to mold me into her version of what she wanted me to be. I'm sure I let her down. You can change DNA and I only got half of hers.

Those school children who are less confident may sometimes feel they have been excluded from some activities but you were proved wrong here when your birthday arrived. A sensitive and honest post Beth, than you for sharing your inner thoughts with us when you were young, love Dolly x x x

I didn't feel excluded until they got on my school bus and ignored me and suddenly I assumed I must be a nobody to them. It doesn't pay to try to judge other people's motives. I've been wrong more than once. LOL

She did it with love for you and with the best of intentions ... and it helped you to realise that your classmates cared about you and respected you. Having said that, my personality is exactly as you have described yourself, so I too would have felt awkward and embarrassed. Very well written. Sending best wishes for the contest.

Thank you Wendy. I don't doubt her intentions were good and that she loved me, but sometimes I don't think she understood me very well. It did let me know that my classmate excepted me as one of the and think I was weird.

I have know other kids like you. Because they liked staying to themselves some considered them to be a nerd or just plain anti sociable. As a boy I wasa much busy with playing sports to ever noticed. Glad things turne out well for you. I would think working in printiong shops would make you talkative. Good one, Beth

I wasn't really antisocial. I had about seven or eight girls I did things with regularly, but usually just with one or two of them at a time. We had sleepovers and did other things, but now that I'm remembering that party. None of my special friends were there and I'm wondering why not.

I love your true story! I'm sure many people on this site could relate. My sister is just like you. Not me, bring it on, lol.
Well written, relatable and engaging.
Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you Rhoda. I appreciate the review and comments. I'm not an total introvert either. Most of the group conversations are boring and not worth contributing to. Often gossip. I guess I not a party girl.

This is an amazing story that is well told. I could relate to your feelings about being a little more comfortable with just a friend or two. I also was never the crowd person. HOWEVER, I was not even born alone I was part of identical twins the smaller quieter, second, one. So, even though I was shy. I was always dragged behind my loud twin. I truly enjoyed your story. When is your birthday? Mine is June 13th.

Have a good evening and day ahead,

Alex :)

Than you Alex. I'm surprised identical twins would have the same inclination to talk. I have twins but they aren't identical. Even so in some ways they are a lot alike ane they are male and female.

Oh, I was shy. We were made to be the talker and the quiet one. Another time, you mentioned your twins. That's very interesting. My identical sister had identical twin boys too. I;ve shown their musical work on here recently. I only have one daughter- but she has two sides to her. ;) ha

Oh gosh, I am much like you Beth. I do not like groups or big gatherings. Makes me nervous. Then I married an extreme extrovert so we are in groups constantly. Eeesh!

The good news is your mom meant well. Bless her heart.

Thank you Douglas. For some reason I assumed you were an extrovert. I guess it is because your stories seem quite bold. I more outgoing that my husband was. He was a true introvert.
