Thank you for sharing this heart wrenching poem with us. I could feel the pain. Our life's journey is a difficult one. I'm so sorry you had to go through these things at such a young age.

I can only offer my condolences as I too have had to suffer the loss of mother, father, grandparents as well. The cruelest blow of all was the death of my oldest daughter. Reading the Bible for comfort, I was overjoyed to learn that not only will God restore to life many who now lay dead in memorable tombs, he will also eradicate death so that none who live at that time will ever taste or come to knw that sadness and loss that death now brings.

One of the greatest hardships in life is continuing forward when a dear loved is suddenly gone. We want to still be sharing so much with them but cannot do it any more and, also, there are memories that only you now possess.

It is very difficult after a loss, but it honors those who have departed to be living the rest of your life doing things you know would have pleased them. Thankfully, if you are a poet, or writer of any other kind, it is possible to gain emotional release by composing works that can release pain, tension, and despair.

You have posted a very strong piece many others will relate to very well. I hope you have been able to gain some relief after your difficult experiences of deep loss. Thank you for sharing it with us in this very creative way. FS has a big group of members who truly care. -- Lily

So sorry for losses, whether yours of those you know and love. Alzheimer's claims so many these days. We have friends with dementia and that is hard on the families as well. I pray you have loved ones who share your grief and help you get beyond that grief.
Life can be cruel but....it also has blessings in each new dawn. Creation is grand and majestic and it is all around us. God doesn't promise we will not have bad days and bad times, but He does promise to help us through them.

Blessings for better days
Janet

I have to say I felt every moment of this poem. There are crippling events that push us away from loving life, but as I see it, we must live it to the fullest regardless of the strife, as it is a gift.

Heartwrenching and heartfelt in every moment! Best, JohnC

I'm so sorry for your collective loss. The loss of a close family member is keenly felt and lasts a lifetime, I find. All of family is gone except for 1 of my 5 brothers and my sister, Suzanne. I seem to go in and out of mourning, still, especially with my mother. Mama passed in 2002 of metastatic cancer. She went very quickly though, which is a consolation.

No recommendations to your sweet poem. Just let it flow, my friend.

Sally xoxo

Your poem moved me. Life can be so cruel. My own circumstances were different yet the same. Experiencing death of a loved one is reality and always hard. Any poem that can move me as much as yours is truly special.

Don't change anything. It is more powerful and authentic when it is raw. It's an expression of your grief, and sadness, and also your anxiety about this next step. Alzheimer's is a relentless and cruel disease, and the grief begins long before death. Clearly written, and very moving. Well done.

A poignant topic and well handled in your free verse poem. Rhyming might have held the danger of triteness. I understand from your note that this is based on a tragedy faced by a close friend. The empathy is clear and I hope it provides some comfort.
