Rejected! Well, she let him down easily and not embarrassing him in any way. The "hot, popular" girl generally isn't that nice.

I'm confused by the final paragraph ... Looking back on this time in my life, I realize etc etc... is this Brian speaking? It seems out of place to me unless I'm missing something.

Good chapter.,,

Yes, that is Brian talking in the present. If you remember, the Prologue takes place today in 2024, and he says he will tell the story of how he got into that predicament. This current part of the story is taking place in 2008. Occasionally I will add comments he makes from the present as an aside, and I will indicate these with italics.

The innocence involved in pre-adolescent crushes I remember well. The first was Roslyn in 7th grade. An Irish lass with long hanging hair. I couldn't even speak with her. I tracked her home in the rain one day and peak in her BR window. That lasted two years and then came high school. That's another story. It lasted three years.

Innocence and a lot of fumbling around as we try to find our way through the miasma of adolescence.

So, you were a Peeping Tom, huh? (How appropriate!) Did you at least see anything interesting?

Not a thing, and I wouldn't have known what it was if I had. All I know was she was pretty and somehow got mesmerized.
