I am so sorry to hear this news about Blondie. Apparently she was very loved by so many and it's a sad thing that she may not even make her birthday. May you have a wonderful day and may you have a good week. Patric

I am so sorry to hear this sad story about Blonde, how awful that she ingested rat poison. My daughter's dog suffered some food poisoning but fortunately got over it. Dogs eat anything and can be very greedy and before we know it, they have eaten something they shouldn't. I hope Blonde recovers, I have my fingers crossed, Sunny will miss his friend, love Dolly x

Thanks so much Dolly for this caring and understanding review. We had thought and hoped that the worst was over and that she was improving so this news has hit me hard.

Oh Wendy, I'm so sorry to hear this but the moment you mentioned rat poison I imagined there would be little hope. She must have been a very strong dog to have survived the time she has. It's heart-breaking for the owners but no guilt should be attached because certain breeds seem to have no awareness of food dangers. We had a young English Setter pup we'd bred ourselves. She was about a year old and had just come through her really crazy puppy stage when she went into the greenhouse and ingested blue slug pellets (normally the colour might have deterred most dogs!) My husband took her to the vet who made him wait in line before prescribing sedatives to help while the poison was passing through her (as though it would be neatly evacuated the other end). She could, at the very least, have attempted a stomach pump. But, like fools we believed and, after 8 hours, she died an agonising death. So sad though it is for Blondie, her organs would, inevitably, have been damaged and her health severely compromised. Thank you for sharing, Wendy. Take care Debbie

Oh no, what a tragedy for you! That vet should have seen that it was an emergency! You do what you think is right at the time, and patiently wait your turn, but sometimes there's a place for being demanding. I hate to think of dogs dying a painful death like that. We had heard that Blondie was improving and thought the worst was over, so this news was devastating. I am sure Brad will know if she is in pain, and act appropriately, but her life, if she does survive will never be the same with her unbounding "joie de vivre" gone forever. Thanks so much for this very caring and understanding review.

Oh no. Oh the poor beautiful creature. Yellow labs are the absolute best dog. They are so smart, loving, and funny. I'm so sorry. I pray she doesn't have to suffer.

Thanks so much for your caring review, Marilyn. I appreciate it. We all thought she was over the worst and improving, so this news is very hard to hear.

Oh, Wendy, that is terrible news. I'm sorry for Blondie, her owners and for you. Unfortunately, dogs are still dogs. No matter how well behaved or smart, they can still get into mischief. I'm so sorry to hear this. Gretchen

Yes, you are right. It's funny but I never thought Blondie would get into mischief like that, even though she loves her food. She always seemed to me the perfect dog, a combination of regal, motherly, and well-mannered (apart from snatching treats!). Thanks for your caring and understanding review.

This is too bad. I'm sure the dogs owner is distressed. I know she will be missed as a therapy dog and Sunny will miss her too. It is interesting that certain breeds are more focused on food than others.

Oh, what DREADFUL news! You are understandably bereft. I'm so sad to read this, Wendy. I will be sending you and Brad and Blondie much love today. This is a horrible shame. xoxox

Thanks so much Rachelle. I had heard she was improving, but I am devastated to hear she is now declining. What a tragedy for such an amazing dog, and her family and friends.

I pull into work, park my car and usually read one post before I head into my job.

Today I'm going in with a heavy heart and a bit teary eyed.

So sad. I'm sure what I'm feeling your feeling if 100x more.

Wendy, I'm sorry.
She is a beautiful looking dog. I have a golden retriever white lab mix and she just captures everyone's heart!

A golden retriever mixed with Labrador would be a stunning dog! And she would definitely win hearts and be much loved. Thank you for your very kind and understanding review. Yes, my heart is heavy. Brad will be devastated if he loses her.

Arsenic is a deadly poison. I am sorry for your loss of Blondie. It does react on the nerves and if a rat eats it then drinks, he drops dead. I hope your friend-owner does find another dog, so sad my friend. K xx

Thanks so much Kay. So far, Blondie is hanging on, but now has difficulty walking. So even if she survives she won't manage the walking involve with being a therapy dog. They have two others, both blonde Labradors as well, one just recently rehomed. She was my favourite, after Sunny. Many thanks for the very kind sixth star. Much appreciated.

Oh the poor baby! A heart of gold helping others and now she can't be helped regardless of the efforts. I know the owner must be devastated. My thoughts and prayers that Blondie does not feel pain or suffering and if it is her time to cross the rainbow bridge, she does it with ease and dignity.
Hugs, Carol

Thank you Carol for this loving and caring review. I am so sad. She may die, or she may live longer with nerve damage and hardly able to walk. She won't be able to continue to do her therapy work. Either way, it's very sad.
