What a great way to celebrate your granddaughter's birthday, Debi. I love that she does the artwork; you two must be close. I think I remember my 21st birthday, or maybe not.
Thank you for sharing, my friend.
God bless,
Steve

21! The big day! It's a true right of passage and that first "legal" cocktail (and chaser, I see!) is meant to be memorable!

My Madison is already planning her 21st...April 8th 2025!

(Only she wants a brunch and mimosa, followed by fun in the casino, followed by a steakhouse dinner, topped of by a Margarita!)

Happy birthday to Kenzi! She's even more beautiful than her art!

Karenina, Its weird to look and think of being a grandma in my 40s and once again wonder where time went? Like you, we blinked and time flew by us.

And LOL, Madison and Kenzie have a lot in common. Their first names start with the same letter. (McKenzie) they both know what they want in life and are going for it, they will never stop loving their grannies, even when we're old and worn out. Oops, that's me now. And Kenz would have any of those drinks.
I have to admit, but last night was not her first drink. NO, say it isn't so. Shocked? Anyway and here you can gamble at 18 but now you have to be 21 to buy any cig or any kind of vaping stuff.

I appreciate the kind comments for Kenzie's 21st birthday. So thanks again, dear friend. Love, Debi

Thankfully any kind of smoke bothers Madison and as she pursues her nursing degree she's very VERY health conscious! (That being said, I imagine like 99% of teens she most have tried smoking at some time...or vaping...)

Our granddaughters are blessings, aren't they? I know they love us, regardless of our age...and more and more I'm loving it when Maddie just "stops by" to chat with me.

So thanks kiddo--- Maddie was here today and I showed her your poem and she laughed and said I had until APRIL 8th, 2025 to write one for HER!

    LOL--

Hahaha. Are you saying you have never written one for her before? No wonder she wants one. Last yrs poem I wrote for her was much better. I threw this together like I did Jan's poem. Did you also show her the one that Sally wrote for you? One of these days I am going to start sending you improved versions of all that I have written for you. I now taught myself something new to do with the plaques to add some decorations. First I tried stamps, but waste of money as they are as bad as the drawings like I did on yours so now I do a photoshop on it. My poem Family Vacation I made for the woman who runs it. I will email it to you and show you what I mean.

No you are not awful. You deal with pain every day of your life! Don't get addicted, but never apologize for seeking relief!

I got it! It's awesome! (I wrote a poem for Maddie the day she was born...I guess she's due huh?)

I seriously do not believe there is any occasion better than the introduction to adulthood. No alcoholic beverage ever tasted as good. All the things you waited to do, may now be available to you. Happy grownup days, your life will be fun in so many ways.

Hey Nomi, Its weird to look and think of being a grandma in my 40s and once again wonder where time went? I appreciate the kind comments for Kenzie's 21st birthday. but LOL, I somehow think that last night was not her first drinks. Haha. She has been living on her own and her boyfriend is 23. Haha. So thanks again, my dear BBBB. Love, Debi

Many of the things I mentioned were for poetic license. Please believe me, my grand daughter will be 29 this year, I know what time it is, I was just trying to be a poet.

What an attractive granddaughter. She plans to be a tattoo artist? One of the best artists I know is a tattooist. My granddaughter wears some of her most beautiful art. There are a lot more people in the world that want to be canvases for artists. The pictures she has done for you are also very special. Happy happy birthday, Kenzie Jo!

Happy 21th Birthday, Kenzie Jo! You'll never be 21 again, and I notice you have a drink in each hand. I hope the day after isn't a sickly one. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ric, can't you tell that drink is a Shirley Temple? It has a rubber ducky in it.
JK... Actually I am pretty sure that will be her only drink and the little one is a chaser to go with it. She is out with her mom and dad so it is a family outing. She isn't a big drinker because she said she can't be shaking when doing the tattoos as she is in a year long internship. She knew already at five years old that is what she wanted to be. I kept telling her she would get blood poisoning by writing on herself with a pen. Anyway, she has always known what she wanted so who were we to argue. However, this place is so reputable that the owner is a teacher where I taught school.
Thanks for the fun review and comments. Love, Debi

Times have changed, my dear. Tattoos aren't for just bikers and jailbirds anymore. They are for preachers and Sunday school teachers too. And it's a great profession in big demand, and it pays well. And as for a 21-year-old celebrating her birthday, with or without a alcoholic drink or two is her own business. I'm certainly not the judging type. "Judge not lest ye be judged," once said by someone smarter than me.

I love how you've captured the journey of someone special, celebrating their uniqueness and the way they've always charted their own path. The lines about their adventures and future dreams are so heartfelt. The wish for their 21st birthday is especially touching--it's clear you have a lot of love and hope for their future. One suggestion might be to smooth out the flow in a few places for even more impact.
EX:

My heart sings with love for you,
I wish you happiness and more,
As sweet as sorbet, fresh and new,
And all your dreams to come ashore.
For your 21st, I wish you joy,
A birthday full of cheer and lore.
Overall, it's a lovely tribute that beautifully conveys your affection and best wishes.

Yes, Patty, I agree as I felt a little stuck on a few places. I hurried to get it written but as much as I love your feedback, did you notice that I used only two rhyme schemes for each six line stanza. So I will go back and see if I can use some of your suggestions but keep the rhyme. Thanks so much, Patty. You are a gem. Love, Debi

Nice! Happy Birthday, Kenzie. Your G'ma wrote you a delightful poem. I can sense and feel the warmth in her heart she has for you in these few stanzas and words.

You are a lucky granddaughter to have a grandma with all that love and affection.

Enjoy your day...

John

John, this is getting freaky because this is the third time I have thanked you on this. Yes, three. I thought it was possible to not save it correctly two times but wow, three. So this time I am taking a screenshot to see what is going on. Good thing you are one of my very favorites or I would be upset, but I don't mind doing it again. And again, and again. LOL.
Seriously, thanks again my sweet bro and one of my best friends.
    Love, Debi
