Fall, in my opinion the best time of the year. After this scorching summer what a relief. Your well written, rhyming poem brings out cool visions of spring.

There has been many sonnets about autumn lately, and yours is a good one.

Autumn

I really think that autumn
Is my favorite time of year.
The leaves are many colored,
And the air is crisp and clear.

The blackflies and mosquitos
Have all finally bit the dust.
I hate to get my rake out,
But my wife says that I must.

The foliage that I admired,
When it was at its peak,
Was only beautiful to me
For just about a week.

Those colored leaves are now all scattered
Over my front lawn.
And what enjoyment that I had
Is now all up and gone.

Now there must be a million
Of those multi-colored things
That autumn frost on cold clear nights
And Mother Nature brings.

So as I stand upon that leafy carpet,
Rake in hand,
I offer up a small request
I hope she'll understand.

"I ask for very little, Mother -
Just a tiny chore.
Would you please blow these leaves
Onto my neighbor's lawn next door."

I laughed so hard, Paul. I ran and read it to my hubby and got a big grin from him. Thanks for the humor and lighthearted review. Hugs, my friend.

Excellent poem. I love the sound. Good rhymes and meter that are not forced. I love the autumn season and you described it so well.

Well done!

This is so relaxing; I just want to curl up and read a bit with something warm to drink. I love the scents of the apple candle and the beef stew emitting comfort. Yum! You might capitalize '(To) live my ....'
I can hear the clocks chiming as you snuggle. Wonderful use of the senses! Blessings. Carol

Love it! It flows beautifully and the rhyme is smooth. It has a leisurely pace which matches the mood of the narrator. It's wonderful to have a time like this to relax and do what you love to do. The image of the clocks centering into time is delightful, and the spicy apple candle smells great. Wish I could enjoy those smells myself. Beautifully written. Oops, sorry! I have no sixes left, but this was worthy of one. judi

What a cozy-delicious poem this is! This hideaway place sounds SO extremely perfect - and the image you found to couple it with could not be more picturesque and appropos! This is Norman Rockwell and Martha Stewart all wrapped up into one perfect idea. xoxo

Melissa,

What a relaxing mood you put me in. The aromas of your foods are tantalizing.

Actually Autumn for me is gobbling more than few warm cider-cinnamon donuts and washing them down with cold apple cider!

I am willing to unwind now in my backyard under the current warm sun while reading a book. The problem is that I often nod off LOL

Mark

Haha, Mark. I nod off too :). I'm glad to know you are enjoying these last days of warm weather before the cool weather really sets in. I envy you your cider donuts. The last time I had one was when we were visiting our son at Ft. Drum, NY a few years ago. Gobble one for me too :)
    Thanks so much.

    Melissa,

They get lots of snow in the Ft. Drum locale. I think the yearly snowfall is 12 feet. Never having served in the armrd forces, I did once drive as a passenger in a tank at Drum as we had an assignment to be at that location. There I found out that they get 1 mile on three gallons of fuel! Even if my memory is lagging, switching the numbers does not make their mpg dry efficient LOL

For many years, we spend a vacation at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT starting the 4th Sunday in June. There we gorge on the cider donuts!

Your poem is sweet and cosy Melissa, warming food and spicy scents in the air, a candle burning and those moments unwinding as we look out at the autumnal colours make this poem a gem. A fine presentation, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
