Poignant words that so fittingly describe reluctant gift given from the sky to the parched earth below. You have described a time when there was an over abundance of sustenance that had been withheld for so long. Good picture to demonstrate this phenomenon.

You could be describing our AL grounds right now, after the hurricane. One day, strong , biting heat, another damp and gloomy. Thank God He protected many people from the storm's wrath.

Thank you, Jim. We haven't had rain for a long time until today so I'm happy about that. It is finally raining.

great little haiku about the healing power of rain, and drought. it seems that in this era of climate change we face either drought or flooding events all the time as well as wild fires..

Can't say I know exactly how it smells anymore since I've lost my sense of smell and taste after covid, but I can dig through the cobwebbed files of my mind and try to recall. LOL Droughts are bad but so is too much water like the hurricanes are dumping on everyone. Good job, Beth.

Oh, this is quite evocative -- I can almost smell that freshening rain and I love autumn's storms (when they are not too dire, like what's happening in the States right now... *sigh*)
The only things I might suggest are to not capitalize the start of each line, and how I learned to show the title of haiku is: Haiku (first line of the poem).
Good luck in the contest!

Thank you, Dawn. I'm glad you liked my short poem. I live the smell of rain on dusty soil. It is one of my favorites scents.

I love it too. You're welcome, Beth. My pleasure!

Hello Beth.
This Haiku meets the style standard, and the narrative is very easy to understand as it describes the conditions of conditions going from drought to wet.

I would love to have some rain so that it would permeate our atmosphere so that I could smell that freshness of a new fallen rain. We have had almost no rain this summer at all and we didn't have very much last summer as well so we are extremely dry. Thank you for sharing this and God bless.

Oh yes, the rain on a dry and dusty earth has a very distinctive odour, it's really quite unique of its own accord, and not really all that unpleasant, beautifully written dear friend, blessings Roy

Perhaps, Florida can help. Good nature scene and good wording. I see nothing wrong. I used up all my sixs this time but will do better in days to come. Hope you win the contest
