We have classes of children who spend a day picking up the trash with their pickers in the park and they do an amazing job. I never drop litter, I love a tidy park and there are lots of bins to get rid of your trash. I have taught my kids and grands to dispose of their rubbish properly. But of course we know that not everyone is the same. I admire you Tom for going out and tidying up your town, you are one of the heroes in life, I enjoyed your story, love Dolly x x x

Oh my Dolly,
you're very kind. I don't understand why people don't have enough respect for themselves or their neighbors when it comes to disposing of their trash. I go out in the car almost every day, and pass by the same neighborhoods, and it distresses me to see the ditches filled with trash. I'm glad you enjoyed this gal.
Have a blessed evening.

We have a problem with trash in the Canaries, people hoard junk. But the authorities are strict about it being in the street. Some people's backyards are full of junk, I just couldn't live like that Tom x x x

I understand gal.

Very well said, and good for you doing service to the whole community. My son did that one day last year, going down and up a mountain road - just because he saw a bit of rubbish while driving, and then once he started he could not stop - but it was in the nineties so he was exhausted by day's end. For us 64 is our winter temperature! I could not cope with minus nine!!

Hello Wendy,
I understand how you feel about the temps. Of course we can dress for it, but it can still be miserable. We're in an area that doesn't get the full effect of the ocean environment, so it's colder here than down in Southeast, but much warmer than the interior. Up in Fairbanks, where my grandson lives, they're getting minus 25 right now. It gets so cold that the tires kind of get flattened if they sit too long outside. When they drive they bump along until they warm up. They have to have special block heaters for the engines too so the oil doesn't get too thick to where the vehicle won't start. At least we don't have snakes here, they scare me.
Have a blessed day.

I can't even imagine how cold that must be!

It's pretty cold.

Oh, Tom! You're not any kind of a wimp - you're a hero!! Thank you for all you're doing to beautify your corner of the world! And it's a warm winter here, too. It gets down to the 20's at night but it was almost 50 this afternoon. What crazy weather. Hope you got a good rest in and thank you for sharing about what you do. Hope more people join you.
The last time I did something like that was with an environmental group but we got heckled and jeered at as if we were jailbirds. And most of what I picked up were cigarette butts. I wished everyone would stop smoking at that point.

Hello Helen,
I can't imagine why anyone would heckle you when you're doing something so beneficial to everyone, and the environment. Our warm spell ended last night, just like the weather person said it would. There was about an inch of snow on the ground this morning, and earlier, it had rained and frozen, so the roads were atrocious. I went out and cleaned off the driveway tonight. Fortunately Jan had bought me a new pair of insulated coveralls, so that part of me was toasty. My ears and face got cold, but mainly because of the howling wind. It sounds like we're in for more normal weather for the rest of the week at least. I always worry about the animals in the cold. Winter is hard on them. It's good to hear from you gal.
Have a blessed evening.

I'm glad Jan got you those new coveralls. We took a brisk walk this evening and it was so cold that I wrapped my scarf over my face because my nose was so cold. Anyway, that cleanup was a long time ago and those hecklers really thought we were prisoners not volunteer workers!

Ha,ha, ha ! You must have been wearing reflective vests or something. I actually need to get one. That way if someone runs me over, I'll know it was intentional.
-
No, please don't get run over! Do everything to stay safe!!

Well I, for one, would like to thank you for cleaning up the roadside! Littering makes me so sick. It's such a selfish act. I wonder what their house looks like. We have a lot of volunteers in Maine who do trash pickup especially on the trails in the woods because people are such slobs. At least your neighbor lucked out with the Fireball bottles. thanks for sharing.

Hello Marilyn,
there is always a city sponsored spring clean up, which I do. That's when I get to pick up a bunch of big yellow bags made just for litter pick up. I don't stop doing it after the spring clean up is done. People being people, there is no shortage of trash that ends up along the road. On the one hand, I do it because I'm selfish, and I don't like to see it in areas that I travel. Plus it's actually a lot of fun. Thanks so much for the great review gal.
Have a blessed evening.

This is a clever topic. In our state (PA) people and organizations can sign up to be assigned a one-mile stretch of road to pick up trash quarterly. It's called Adopt-a-highway (though it applies to back roads, too). It's a fantastic program and it's noticeable which roads have been sponsored and which haven't.
Last time I picked up trash on my own road, I ended up having to call the police. I found a gun in the weeds.
Two little suggestions:
an abundance of trash along side the road
(alongside)
one ounce bottles
(one-ounce bottles)
This story was right up my alley for interesting. I enjoyed it!

Hello Julie,
thanks so much for the great review and the corrections. I went back and made them. We have sections of adopt a highway along the state roads. People have to be really careful though because the moose will hang out close to the roads at times and are very territorial. I've never found a gun, but who knows, maybe that's next.
Have a blessed evening gal.

As usual your true to life stories are a hoot. The title alone was worth a six. The photo was right on the money. I might be gone a lot for a while. The temp is going up but the humidity and the darkness have increased. Bad for my body. You did a good job here. Karen

Hello Karen,
thanks so much for the wonderful review and the six gal. I appreciate it. I can understand the temps going up, but the darkness should be lessoning as the days get longer. Do you have an air conditioner?
I know that you deal with a lot of pain. I wish I could help you somehow. Of course I'll continue to pray for you. Are you going to be going away or just be away from the computer?
God bless and keep you gal. I hope things look up for you soon. I want to send you something. Is your address still the same?
Have a blessed evening my friend.

Do you have a back brace under your bed by chance? I have plenty of books. I passed your book to my sister Tammy, she has read a little and says you have a quiet sneaky humor. Grand praise from her! I am still here. Karen
-
I don't believe I do have gal. Won't Medicaid pay for one for you? There has to be some help available to you somewhere in that state.
I don't know what sneaky humor is, but I'll take your word for it about the praise.
-
Sneaky humor is where it slides in and it is so subtle that you just feel good without knowing why. It is a very high compliment. I am still hunting for a doctor, I want a geriatric doctor. Then, they can write me a script for a back brace . Karen

Ah good. Thanks for the explanation.
