Thank you so much for writing this bio of Minnie Pearl. I remember watching her with my dad and he laughed until he had tears in his eyes. She was a remarkable person who did a lot more in the music and theater world than I knew.

Thank you for the read. I found out stuff I never knew. She came from a family of all girls like me. That was interesting. Karen

Thank you for all these biological details about Minnie Pearl. I didn't know her as well as the comediennes you started this post with but it makes me want to listen to her now. Loved that Mark Twain quote!

Oh yes, even though I'm Australian I know a great of those female comediennes, I particularly loved the "I love Lucy show" she was brilliant. We have some pretty good stand up comediennes here, which is the most difficult gig of all. Thanks for sharing Karen, blessings Roy

Thanks for the read. I don't know which of Lucy's routines I loved the most. VitaMeataVegamin, Her locked in the freezer, Working for the candy automatic line, or her and Harpo. And let's not Forget Carol Burnett in "Went with the Wind, or her and Harvey on " As the Stomach Turns". Lots to love. Karen

Thank you for sharing Minnie Pearl with us. I grew up watching and laughing at her humor. They don't make them like her any more.

She and her husband Dezi Arnaz created the DesiLu television network. (husband,)

Totie fields (Fields???)

But worked almost all her life for the grand ole opry as a breakthrough woman comedian. & Grand old Opry.
(Grand Ole Opry)

After her father died she became the sole support of her family. (died,)

Yes, that was a really good picture of her. I could not find a real good one of her full length. But, her hat was the most important part. When she first started out it was a simple howdy. Than it turned into
HowDeeee! They heard her coming. Thanks for the six stars. Karen

Hi Karen, I read your essay with great interest and I also learned a lot. A lot of the comedians, I didn't know but now I know more. Minnie Pearl sounds like a lot of fun.
But you left out one of my favourite female comedians, Bette Midler. She can be course, but very up front and funny. One of my favourite. Ulla xcx

I was writing about standup comedians. All those listed have done standup routines, even if that is not what they were best known for. Bette is a favorite of mine. I adored her in Ruthless People. Her voice in Wind Beneath my Wings is amazing. But there are a lot of ladies I did not mention. Rita Rudner, Carol Leifer, Diane Ford, Cathy Ladman, Ellen Degeneres, Lily Tomlin,Wanda Sykes, Whoopi Goldberg, Imogene Coca, Ali Wong, Kathy Liefer, Kathleen Madigan, Roseanne Barr, Brett Butler, Tig Notaro, Fortune Feinster, Katherine Ryan, or Hannah Gadsby. There are hundreds more. I love to tell jokes and stories myself. get someone laughing and you brighten their day. Karen

Thank you for this very fine post which I enjoyed so much. I love Minnie Pearl but never knew much about her. Your remarks on Sophie Tucker reminded me there were also Black entertainers that had to were Blackfce as they were not considered Black enough. Of the great entertainers you mentioned, the only one I saw in real life was Tobie Fields. In my drinking days, in my hometown, Bridgeport, CT, a bartender told me in the fifties, Toby Fields performed there.

Thanks for the read, and for giving me those lovely stars. I appreciate them. I liked Totie Fields because she was short like me. Stand up comedians a lot of times ran the same circuit as musicians. They sometimes opened for them. Karen

Karen,

This is a great tribute to Minnie Pearl. I remember watching her on Hee Haw. We watched that every Saturday night I believe. You know back in the day when there was only one television in the house.

Great job my friend

Cecilia

Thanks for the read.Daddy ruled the roost. I was the remote until a real one came along. He liked country and western music, westerns, war movies, and sports. I read a lot, so when he watched sports I was reading.I watched the Grand Ole Opry and Hee Haw with him. I loved her. And Archie Campbell. Karen

Well, you've either got a huge amount of knowledge already or done masses of research! I'm not familiar with her at all but she sounds a remarkable woman who fits that final Twain quote perfectly. Personally, I would have just focused exclusively on her because I think your other subjects slightly detracted from her glory. But a great job! Debbie

Thanks for the read. I edited, found another one. I listed the other ones hoping someone would pick one to write about. We need to celebrate women whenever we can. Karen

It was my first biography. I didn't know if the way I think and write would work out. I am glad it is liked.
    Thanks for the read. Karen
