waiting for medics, to carry me away
only two hundred soldiers made it up there today.

This is a compelling poem. Sounds to me like you've been in the mix more than once. As a Viet Nam Vet, I honor your service.

This is a heartbreaking story within this poem. It makes me think that we don't learn. In wars there are not winners. The scars left never heal.
It's very well written and honored the author who remember them.
Congratulations!
Laren

Beautiful, a lovely way to show the fear and adrenaline our soldiers felt facing the enemy. Also highlighting as you say the horrible way they lost their lives with no dignity or recognition. A free flowing poem that touches the heart brilliant.

Hello, Deepwater. I saw that you had another poem posted so I wanted to give it a quick read. This one, like the others, is well done. You should send these to a publisher that caters to the military, Stars and Stripes and others. I enjoyed reading this and it should do well...Gideon

Thank you for reminding us of the atrocities of war. Hopefully we can learn from history not to make the same mistakes, but unfortunately we seem to repeat ourselves. I can hear the voices of the soldiers, because I hear my dad. He had some of the same experiences, except in WWII. ann

Forgotten by the general public, but heroes to our nation and to their families. Never forgotten for their sacrifices and bravery.
Excellent poem, describing the horrors of war.

Excellent poem about the tragedy of war, how many forgotten soldiers are all over throughout the history of humanity sad and well written poem.

Six thousand soldiers, we march through the night
cold winds and rain, keeping the next man in sight

Deepwater, Your poem is beautifully written in remembrance of those brave soldiers who were slaughtered. Your words brought the poem to life in the horror of war with phrases like "will this be my grave". Very powerful writing brings out the sadness and cruelty of war. Excellent writing. Regards, Warren
