I was in 3rd grade when this happened. My brother had just shaken hands the day before with the president. It was a heavy hearted time for sure. Your piece with its factual statements is touching and very good. Thanks for writing. xoxo Kiwi

What a tragic day in time this was. I fear it won't be the last, especially in this day in age with so many heartless souls wandering about. Thank you for sharing your talent.
God bless

I was only 7 years old, but I remember that day like it was yesterday. So much sadness at the loss of the man who had brought so much hope to our country. I could feel the sadness deep in the adults around me. Love this free verse interpretation of that day! xoxo

Hello my friend. In 1963, after JFK was killed, I believe America lost its innocence. Think about it. Nothing has been the same for our country and americans since that fateful few days.
Your poem is very well done, Linda. Congratulations on a fine write.
:) Bless you. Bob

What a great poem about a Sad and
Important day in history.
It's full really good emotions and
feeling from that day.
You did a really good job describing
The events and feeling of that day.
And really enjoy reading it.
Keep up the great work.

I think your poem captures that feeling of shock we felt at the time, the electric images flash around in this piece, but we feel numb and frozen in response. estory

Hi Linda, I was eleven when it happened and it was shocking. I lived in Denmark at the time and my parents and I were watching life as the cortège travelled through Dallas. And then it happened. Thanks a lot for sharing this poignant poem. All best. Ulla:)))

Ulla, thank you so much. It is surprising me to hear from writers from all over this globe who felt the same grief as Americans did that day. It's rather like the day Princess Diana died in that car crash. The US mourned just as hard as Brits. Linda

A poem that described the day so well...I can recall stopping still, and listening to what was being said...sure I didn't hear the horrible news, and indeed yes it was true....This was a day, that shocked the nation, and a day we lost a true American that was respected, and loved, he will be remembered as the president for All Americans.
Thanks for sharing this well written piece with us, the form you used, along with the words, made this poem one to remember.
Warmly,
Victoria

1963 was an amazingly awful year in so many different years, but the ultimate low point has to be the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy. There were so many aspects from which to write about the event.

Hello Linda, this is a really well written poem about a horrific incident on 22 November 1963. Is it that long ago that President was assassinated? I cannot believe how time flies! You tell of the incident very well in this free verse. Your last four lines are brief and very stark. The tone is one of disbelief. Well done. Warm regards Dorothy x
