Entitled. That's the problem with everyone in the United States. The rich believe that they are Americans and everyone else their employee. The poor are fed and clothed to the point that being asked to work is an insult. Take a trip to Haiti, Somalia, or any other country where being poor is an eventual death sentence. The rich are through with paying taxes for benefits they'll never see because they aren't the idle poor.

WOW!!! Not only is the piece well written but exciting in the fact that it actually parodies a true event as noted. The flow and tempo are unrelenting so much so that the reader becomes the speaker or part of the audience. Throwing put Mr.. Trashee (love the pun) is brilliant because it allows the principal a chance to exit 'stage left'. Compelling economic logic pummels the audience into submission paving the way for the wonderful and totally unexpected conclusion. A sure winner in any contest. Congrats.

Thank you very much. Seeing the events in person and play out in Chicago this summer was difficult. I wished the press would show a person speaking like this, but they won't do that here.

With your opening line you captured my attention, just as a good writer should. The rest of the story was filled with a lot of good commentary on how frustrating it must be for teachers and school principles today. Then too you added a personal touch about your main character and how he found a solution to two things at once. Great short story.

Thank you very much. I am happy to see the opening line got your attention. I think that is the hardest part of writing a story. the nest is how to keep them from getting bored. I'm still learning.

This is a very well written story with a strong message. There was a teacher's strike recently in my town. The last 4 time there was an issue on the ballot to raise money for the schools it failed and yet parents were out picketing for increase wages. Lunacy!

Well that's one heck of a last day. Sucks about his wife though. Very well written and I'm sure there are many principals who would like to say exactly what he did, Nice ending too.

The writer does a good job of drawing the reader into this chapter from the start. This story is intense from the beginning and keeps the intensity to the end. I see nothing that I would change in this piece. Good job.

I can imagine the frustration over such decisions...
a great loss to so many - it's the same here - and
even if they do ask the question and it's answered,
they might hear it, but won't take any notice, as
they will do as they want.

the money wasted here on unnecessary alterations to
our city is ludicrous, when our streets and many
pavements are full of dangerous pot-holes. Who makes
these decisions - not the public.

a great write - good luck with the contest.

Margaret

Well, where do we start? Apart from the fantasy of the last paragraph, we soon come to realize that our glorious civilization is a resounding failure and a regression to the year 2000 B.C. That might explain the lunacy that reigns. So we in our social isolation are so disconnected and unbalanced that dreadful slips like; "I hate you all." emerge. It wasn't a slip of the tongue. It was a slip of the conscious mind and it happens all the time. Now is the time to lambaste the education system. We become automatons soaking up near useless fact to fit into near useless jobs
Well near useless to most of us. Which is all part of the fragmentation of our 'modern' world not that any other era proved useful. The glorious Roman era despite its efficient bureaucracy only lasted 400 years. One quote shines forth with its wisdom. When Maiomades was asked to encapsulate all of Judaic wisdom while standing on one leg, he said;" Love thy neighbor as thyself." Can it be so simple? -Ekim777 P/S/ As for the multi million figures that are burned every day; they tell us little as to what ever happened to it. No matter, Freud said money could never bring us happiness because money is not a childhood wish.
