Goodness, Steve! You manage to execute (no pun intended) even a grim little piece with panache!
A dark Cockney sort of chuckle ... :)(I could hear Eliza Doolittle's dad belting this out to music after a few pints of ale!)
Happy New Year to you.

He as a beauty wasn't he, Mr Dolittle? Maybe my chap's 'gettin married in the morning' and that's why he's going to send death away.
Happy new year to you too - considerably colder than our summer which has just arrived with a vengeance!

Wouldn't it be great if we really could scare him off if we weren't ready yet? Clever premise and written well with the bit of dialect. Really excellent choice of artwork for your piece, also.

Thanks for the kind words.
I guess my real point was not to 'go gentle'...

I remember telling a group of friends who were discussing death and the grim reaper that I was going to run like hell when he came for me. I may just have to repeat your poem. Well crafted and fun to read. Nicely done. Gretchen

Can I please have this poem - I wanna tuck it under my pillow in case ol' Miserable decides to SNEAK in. (HAHAHAHA - just kidding - we can't ask for much better than to 'go' in sleep, I guess...)
Steve, this is a jewel - fabulous idea, and the 'dialect' is great - I'm grinning so hard (again) my face is getting sore!
(Out of sixes early yesterday, or - as usual with your poetry - this would be rated properly.)
EXCEPTIONAL - short, and very, very sweet! **************************!!

Hi Steve, What fun this is! We often read about death and dying, but never in such an upbeat, whimsical way. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem and thank you for writing it. I'll have to remember this when I'm on my death bed, lol. Hugs, Lou

Love the 'kiwi' lingo, Steve. Good for you, mate. Send 'im packin'. This is incredibly funny and great rhyme scheme. The grim reaper pic goes well also

Blessings!

Thanks, Marsha - glad you enjoyed.
Of course, 'I am a non-believer' remember, so I don't really think of Death as a personification....

You tell 'em! Its time someone stood up to the Reaper and put a good strong foot up his butt! Well-written poem with a message of live for the day cause you never know when old skull-face will be showing up. Loved it!

Hello there~!
Ha! This is one awesome poem! I enjoyed it. it's very lively and all.
I'm afraid that you can't actually tell this when the time comes.. Hmm... but, maybe your prayer will reach God, and you may have a long life!
anyway, thanks for sharing this fun little poem.
JazakAllah Khair~!
(God Bless~!)

Thanks, Kausar. No praying here - I'm a non-believer, remember! Perhaps the message is more to not give in too easily....

It would be fabulous if we had the power to keep death from our door, Steve. I really like your well written poem and love the language you've used, along with the artwork.
Great use of alliteration with chop/chap and so and so. Your flow of words is really fine. Love this stanza:
'"I dunno why you came 'ere
With yer bloomin' ten-foot knife,
So pack yer bags and scoot off back,
Cos I ain't done with life!"'
Well done, my friend! Happy New Year! Alana

Glad you enjoyed my little piece - let's hope I'm actually this strong when old skull-face really does show up!

Exactly! I was a hospice volunteer for a patient living at home for two years. When I started, they told me she'd be gone within a month. She fought hard to stay alive . . . . so, there you have it! Take care. Alana
