This is an interesting story Patty. That old saying 'You can pick your friends, but not your relatives is sad but true. Most families have the grace and affection to accept the chosen mate whether they like the person or not. This should be VERY interesting when we get to the memorial.Good Job. NAncy

Kathy and Dough are responsible for the arrangement now, but it will not be a smooth undertaking. For instance, Sylvia, Doug's sister, is holding onto ill feelings toward Kathy and thinks her involvement in handling the affairs of the dead mother is wrong. Nevertheless, Dough and Kathy presses on by honoring her mother-in-law and Doug's mother wishes.

Good morning Patty:

Oh okay, I see that you did realize that in part 1 the amount in the letter was $50,000. That's terrific.

This story is continuing to be as realistic as the real life story would be and this story is unfolding nicely. I love it how Kathy remembered to ask for Security regarding the risk of the family drinking and the behaviors that could happen because of it.

It is definitely an interesting story. I believe many will follow it.

Well, the second installment to the story did not quite leap off the page for me. You could have gone back to edit the price of the check, and then made a slight notification of it. You repeat in dialog what is written in prose, and that is somewhat unimaginative. It lacks luster, and the prose is tedious. Good effort.

Good morning, Patty

Strong continuation. You have the proper balance between showing and telling. The flow was excellent. You allow the reader to enter the story and experience the emotions Kathy and Doug are dealing with. Enjoyed.

Out of sixes.

Take care and stay safe,

Ray

Ya know, I thought I remembered the money thing being less. Thanks for the note.
As for too long, I wish we could have heard more! The story-line and emotions of all the characters were expressed quite vividly. That pulls the readers in and makes us look forward to more.
Have a great family visit!

I think that was a good spot to make the chapter break, and to me this chapter didn't seem too long 'cause I enjoyed it. You've got really believable family conflict here, Patty, and it's going well.
Enjoy your family visit,
cheers,
valda

Is this woman really dead? She must have known how they would react when Kathy called. Is this some crazy, manipulative way to get everyone together and stick it to Kathy? It almost seems like something she would do.

Very good. Things seem to be going fairly well so far. His sisters are even apologizing. I wonder why they all hated Kathy so much. I might have missed that.

I'll bet you're excited to see your daughter and her family. Have fun. :)

Hi Phyllis; I haven't let the reader know what exactly happened between the sisters and Kathy - more will be revealed at the actual event. Thank you so much for reading.

I've decided to take my laptop along on the trip - I'm invested in this story, and I won't be able to rest without writing,

I guess this story is based loosely on families you might know. Not all families are particularly functional, and the death of a misunderstood "loved one"or indeed, a close relative, can stir up old resentments, awkward, but necessary communicated, old resentments reactivared. But normally people are usually quite civil, at least at funerals, or memorials...it could be theirs! Well done, Patty, good scribing, blessings, Roy

    Hi Roy;
While most funerals or memorials are somewhat civil - I suspect this one will be full of tension and expressed and unexpressed thoughts.

Thank you for the encouraging and thoughtful review. I hope you will continue along for the ride,
