A very well-written Tanka. Soulmates willl always be connected with an invisible bond even when they are far apart or one soulmate may died , but they still have a soul connection.

Nicely done. I must admit, I had to work with the commas a bit, so read a couple of times.

I would just take the first comma away...even if not using a full stop.

"Depart from this world
and find peace with my blessing
I'll stay in comfort
knowing your soul is my mate
From me, you shall never leave"

Nicely done.
My best wishes.

Well this is a lovely Tanka poem for your first try and I wish you all the best in the contest. The syllables are all in the correct order and it flows nicely. Well done. PM

Perfect form.
Tragic poem.
Loss is so difficult...
Goodbye is inconceivable and yet we all will say it.
Love lives on.
Memories shine in the darkness.

Hi kahpot. This is a good entry for the contest. I can't vouch for the form or meter. At first I thought you were writing about meeting up with God. Then I read your comment at the top. I think I am so unprepared for my husband's death should he predecessor me. Even for my siblings. We are all aged 54-67. I know we are not that old. All of my siblings (there are nine of us) are healthier than I am. I inherited all the bad things from both parents and added a few of my own. Very nice message in this poem. Sorry for the diatribe. Good luck in the contest. Thank you for sharing

Well Kah it isn't the kind of tanka I learned, but according to the rules of this contest you've written up a lovely poem. So yes! You've got it right.

Best wishes to you in the contest. :)

Wow! thank you very much, I was (am) trying to write an Acrostic when this appeared on the paper, these Acrostics are tricky yet fun thank you for getting me interested in different forms of writing, I keep reading your work and realize I have quite a few to learn, many thanks****kahpot

I enjoyed reading your tanka, kahpot. I am no expert, but I believe you did a great job. You have the correct number of syllables, a good pivot line 3, line 1 & 2 are connected, & I just liked it. Your tanka's message is great, too. I believe death has separated a couple, but the one left knows s/he will be reunited as they are soulmates. Best wishes in the contest. Jan

I'm not a tanka expert but I like how you wrote this one. You do make a mental pivot in the middle line changing from releasing the beloved from this physical world and the rest of the poem focuses on the closeness in soul/spirit that will continue forever.

Thank you very much, a pivot in the middle is the second time I have read this but did not know it was a requirement, must be lucky, many thanks****kahpot
