Well I like this! "Dying houseplant" is quite a topic. I have one particular specimen in my house that's a cutting off another plant I rooted, then planted, but it is not exactly setting the plant world on fire with new shoots. I will...grieve a bit if it croaks but it won't be the end of the world and I don't sing to it! Maybe I should, huh?

Thanks, enjoyed it.

This is a very sweet poem. It feels like a poem from the heart. Knowing that as you need TLC so does the fern. This flows very well. It was an easy read to follow, and understand. Good luck in the contest I hope you win.

Lovely poem entry for the dying house plant contest. Good rhyming word selection. I really like the dramatic message your words send... very emotional impact for the reader. Nice picture. Best of luck!

I have to smile because I'm working on a poem about a plant, but with a completely different take. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. My favorite line:

I grab a scalpel and give it a whack

How sweet, the fern knows how much you need it and birthed a sprout. Sounds like a terrific relationship, haha. Lou

We all need something to calm our frustrated moods sometimes. In this case, its the sublime image of a fern. It's amazing how we project these emotions onto plants and pets and they interact with us in this way to form a relationship of sorts. The plant takes our shaking hands and calms them down. estory

That is cute. ttheplant was dying and you sang to it all night and told that it has to survive and it did!
I grab a scalpel and gave it a whack!
this is emergency surgery! but it worked and a new sprout came .The result of your singing?

I love the suspense of the plant dying, and then the aesthetic ending of "swear as soon as I called out, the fern birthed a tender sprout." Nice job!! :)

Excellent. I loved the good news, bad news line. Alone can be good or bad, thus the importance of the plant. My wife reacts much the same way as your poem. Reaches out and engages on several levels. I, will often sing and talk to the plants. What a great audience. Very well done. Hugh

You did a wonderful job addressing this interesting writing prompt. I have no green thumb--I over loved a cactus with too much water!! :) Your rhyming pattern throughout gave your words an easy flow and your message of being alone and the plant brings you smiles meets this challenge/contest. Good luck to you.
