Hi there,
Goosebumps went up and down my arms when I read the last lines. I've spent my share of time in the VA hospitals and it gets to me every time. I hate to see broken young people, and there are many of them.
I just read to them or listen and I feel like I'm doing something small to help and give back. This piano teacher is surely giving something special to this young man, and I think there will be a special rose in heaven with her name on it,

You are obviously as extraordinary in Real Life as you are on paper, Mustang Patty. Anyone who volunteers, as you do, for these people who have given so much of themselves is certainly not doing something 'small.' I respect and admire you now more than ever.

Excellent look at just one vet and one mom -- and the need is so great. A moving story, one that could be repeated over and over. Music does calm people. Often at care facilities and even in families, music is a balm. Thanks for sharing this story.
