Ohhh, Mystery Writer. This is simultaneously stark and brilliant. I could see every second of this vignette in my mind as I read your words. SUPER excellent job. You ought to do so well in the contest with this masterpiece. xo

A sad commentary on what has become a plague in the cities. Forgotten souls who exist day to day - lines between fantasy and reality blurring more and more. This is a wonderful story in poetic form - albeit a sad one. The title lures you in and packs a surprising punch with the subject matter. Well done.

Sometimes the people who look like they have it all really have nothing. Have you ever seen the 20/20's or whatever show it is that watches pan handlers? Some of them do it for a living and are living in like $300,000 houses. They don't work a day in their life. It's insane.

I appreciate this being a story. A sad one that I did follow through the stanzas. Usually, a breaking line would be somewhat repetitive or possibly rhyme with another one in the poem. I was having a hard time with the syllable structure and meter in this poem. However, because the story was so poignant I will go ahead and give you the five stars and I would say that you have some lines that need a little work. There are extra words that could be removed to make it flow a little easier. If you would like some further discussion on this contest entry and advice I would be happy to offer in a message. Only if you are open to some pointers. Cheers, Fonda

This o ne seems to be about a person who wants to hide away from reality .mary's life is filled with voices and pretend..She curses reality .Though she is happy with her collected things she recalls her life is trash...
she is unhinged slightly because of her life?

I apologize if I'm terribly thick, but I understand Mary is a homeless person that lives by the beach?
Thanks so much for sharing and good luck in the contest.

You've captured one of society's sad realities - the homeless and mentally challenged. I live in Hawaii and beaches are full of tents with homeless families and individuals living in them. The ocean and a homeless individual are stark comparisons. You have told a compelling story. Good luck in the contest.

a very well written piece in rhythmic verse. a sad story, that happens far too often. your writng really gives one the feel of Mary slipping in and out of coherency..

Very unique poem dealing with mental health issues. The takeaway is any of us could be Mary. One question: is proabably supposed to be probably? Good luck in the contest.

The sad plight of the mentally and emotional unstable who live among us, need, really need to be in an environment where they can be cared for by trained , compassionate professionals and not just dropped off on some street corner or alley, ignored and forgotten, forced to fend for themselves, when they are clearly unable to do so. It is a national disgrace.
