I love this story! I could see it all in my mind's eye. Your scary experiences and your fearless mother coming to the rescue. I even felt comforted! ha ha

Great story about dealing with the witch from your childhood. I really like the point that your mom stood up for you. That shows you the power that you never forgot it. Bill

As usual, with dialog and just enough details in descriptions, you put readers right there with you in the action of the moment.

It is a sad reality that some adults truly seem to dislike and mistrust children. Who knows what past experiences prompt such an attitude.

(Had I been there, she'd have found a bat-like Nameless, Faceless Creature was more worrisome than a young girl on a bike.)

Ironically, had that woman not falsely accused you the first time, and been more polite the second time, your mom might have compensated her for whatever damage you did do. Under the circumstances, though, she got what she deserved -- nothing but whatever discomfort her unrequited anger wrought on her. You, on the other hand, were aptly remorseful over damage not really your fault, so had the solace of your mom's protection. After all, you could have been hurt in that accident.

With this story, you show that reality can be scarier to a child than many Halloween tales.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review, stars, and kind compliments, dear Mike. I'm glad you enjoyed it, although scary. It was scary at the time, and my fears felt very real. I'm glad I had a mother who was brave and protective.
Sending you my best today as always,
    Sal :))

You are most welcome, Sal. Yes, your mom handled that situation well. Women who have endured difficult times often become far tougher than most people realize, particularly when defending their children. -- Mike

Hey Sal.

The irony of being accused of doing something that you didn't do and then accidentally doing it is written into your story. I chuckled when you called yourself a goner.

I think every little town has folks that strike fear into the hearts of youngsters. I believe some of them like it that way. It isolates them but they like isolation to begin with. I believe they think it defends them from everyone else.

Your mom did a great job of defending you.

Oh, Sally, this is lovely, and so funny ,as well. Of course, at the time it was not funny at all, but that silly woman really did have a problem, didn't she? I loved the story, and it is so very well told, all seen from a young child's eyes. Ulla:)))

Dear Ulla, thank you for the lovely review and generous stars. I?m delighted that you enjoyed this. I?m not really a horror writer so this is my Halloween offering for the year. So glad you enjoyed it and could see a little bit of my past life and what a blessing my mother was to me. Sending you my best today as always,

This bit of information will get the reader scrambling for more info. "The antique floor heater was a beastly thing, with a metal grid on top, and if we forgot to wear slippers in the winter, it singed our feet. (You only did that once.)" oweee. I like your allusion. That caused the reader to pause and be amused. I like how this is told from a child's point of view. It will invite readers to identify. I remember when my mother was yelling at the mother of a boy's mother. The boy had knocked me off my bike and began assaulting me. The other mother lived almost 1000 feet from us across a field and fence. It was exciting & a little amusing to see these grown yelling so loud to each other across a field. But it did feel good to have my mother defending me.

Well this memory stayed with you for sometime and today you shared it with us. Your neighbour sounds formidable and I am wondering did you scratch her car the second time she accused you when you were on your bike? I admire your Mum for sticking up for you and she was your protector! A well written story, much enjoyed Sally, love Dolly x

Thank you very much for your excellent review of my work. Yes, I scratched her car at the end of the story, but not the first time. I lived in terror that it would happen for real, and it did. Anyway, my mom saw the impact it had on me and took care of her bullying.

Bravo to your Mother for telling that witch just how it was, Sally. You did a great job with your story. I could see everything you mentioned from you riding your bike, to the crash, to the confrontation. Your story has good flow and pacing. The videos are perfect accompaniments to your well though out story.
Respectfully, Jan
