I love wide open spaces...my only fear of them...
would be Tornados...I live in a corn belt...there is open land all around me...we have Tornados that come down all around us...but I love the beauty of the land...and I guess the suspense as well...
I love your poem...and wish I had a six for it...******...
very well written...picture...perfect...love Linda xxoo

The author's words are descriptive, interesting and creative. Thank you
so much for the author's notes they compliments the words of this poem. I didn't know about Kenophogia - thank you for the detailed definition. The artwork is perfect and compliments the words of this poem.

Kudos, Senyai, for penning a particularly delightful and insightful senryu.
And, of course, there is the added benefit of sharing with readers the definition of kenophobia!
I love the sentiments expressed!
Thank you for sharing!
And Best Wishes!

I find your commentary and research in your author's notes interesting and intriguing. Putting on your hat triggers comfort with wide-open spaces, huh? I was not aware of that and, of Kenophobia, either. I knew about Agoraphobia, but only slightly, so thank you for informing me of the condition many people find themselves in. I like the picture you chose for this piece. I imagine you standing outside somewhere feeling overwhelmed and anxious. And putting on your hat to help solve the uncomfortable situation. Good luck with the contest and may you have a wonderful weekend,
Jesse

An unusual fear. Your detailed notes explain your poem. The third line was otherwise a little startling. But an original and creative 5-7-5 and an excellent one, so very best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Thank you for the interesting note, I had not come across kenophobia before so I learned something new. Your hat is acting as a border - the edge of you so it protects you from being swallowed up by the vast outdoors,
From the point of view of a senryu this is almost verbose:
'(Out) onto distant vistas --
I (put on) don my hat'
would make a tighter senryu but with this prompt you are restricted to the 5-7-5 form.

Your senryu is very well written, linking the wide-brimmed sky with wearing a hat.
Thanks for your illuminating posting. I did not know about kenophobia; I know about agoraphobia and explaining the difference was helpful. I can see how wearing a hat would be helpful in providing security, a border to the space you are in. Luckily for me, I don't suffer from these as I love wide open spaces - I got used to them in Australia.

Thanks for the education! My son has agoraphobia and can not function outside his home. Kenophobia is something I'd never heard of! (I kind of wish he could experience any wide open spaces!)

Hi Karenina!
How are you doing these days? Hope you are improving. Thinking of you every day.
Oh no, poor guy. My mother had a slight bit of agoraphobia and it got worse as she got older. I hope your son tries desensitization therapy, I hear it has been helpful for some that will commit to it.
I found I must have a tad of kenophobia, when our family was on a vacation years back while visiting the Navajo Indian Pueblos in New Mexico. We could see for miles. We could see ground to sky lightning from great distances and the thunderstorms brewing for miles. Really beautiful but I felt strangely vulnerable out there ? like I was naked or something. LOL I thought, if I can see for miles, so can all the other eyes out there see me for miles. Yikes!
When we got into Albuquerque I was fine. Oh well, I love the country with sheltering trees and such, but wide flat lands as interesting as they are leave me a bit exposed.
Take care, dear Karenina. Know you are in my prayers.

Thanks for sharing these experiences! My son has tried all kinds of therapy and has not (yet) come to one that helps him. I'm praying... I've asked several in my family what "kenophobia" was and none of them know so thanks for making me the smartest one (for a brief moment!)

Hi Carmen,
Oh, glad I?m not the only one then. Whew ? I could not understand my strange reaction to a beautiful outdoor vista. I felt like a rabbit or some prey that at any moment some hawk might swoop down and get me. It was ridiculous but disturbing. I thought I would love the great outdoors :-(
Thank you for your marvelous review. I appreciate the well wishes too.

Your not the only one but your words might have been the best I have heard to make a scary situation so beautiful
