Your third stanza says it all, ending with the line "Humanity has failed". We have failed, and when we believe our failures cannot possibly result in something worse, they do. I finally understand that war is what we do best; not feed the hungry, house the homeless, care for the weak . . . But we have terrifying weapons, and we'd just as soon spend billions on them and pretend we have nothing for those in need.

This is spectacular in its brutal truth. I appreciate you sharing it with us.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to your thoughtful review. The situation in Gaza still haunts me and I am still in disbelief that the world is still just standing by allowing the massacre to continue.

It is so heart breaking to think of what is going on in this part of the world at the moment, it really is getting harder and harder to watch the news at the moment, and you capture the horror of the events well in your piece.

This is an absolutely beautiful poem that you have written about the events of this day that are going on in the world. We almost stop and say a prayer for our Jewish friends in Israel that God will have his hand on them just as he is at his hand on them for so many years. They can win the fight, but it's gonna cost some lives. I'm fear. Patricia.

A strong and emotive verse remembering the innocents of war who we've forsaken in acts that can never be proclaimed as righteous! Well done for pressing this reality home! Debbie

Hi John,
This is an imaginative and moving poem about the shame and horrors of war. I like the use of a song of freedom used as a background for blood and gore. It reminds us of the war America fought for freedom. This one seems to not care for any innocents.
Good luck in the contest,
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great weekend
Joan

    Hi Kimbob,
No need to apologize. Oh It?s so sad that this area had been fighting for so long. War is always horrible.
I prayer for peace there and for all other war torn areas.

That is a perfect rhyming poem for the contest, raising many moral points. I think in many countries morals have flown out of the window, even the countries that are suffering atrocities by their own rulers. This is not a nice place to be born in anymore. Why can't governments be satisfied with the land they already have? Well done, and good luck in the contest! :)) Sandra xx

A very touching poem for the contest and it is a tragic situation as many innocent people are being bombed and there seems no resolution for this awful situation. A fine poem of truth here, good luck, love Dolly x
