Alzheimer's is a soul-crushing disease, never more so than for their loved ones who experience the loss, a little piece at a time. You captured it well here, and for that sorrow to be compound by a cancer that steals life in an equally cruel way.

Who can answer why one person suffers do many losses at such a young age? Grief consumes us...

Until we wake up each morning, day after day, and realize we survived...

We must go on.

Writing helps, and your poem is as honest a lament as I've ever read.

We love them for as long as we have them...

Then we love the memory of them...

I believe we meet again, I hope you do!

My first six for the day. Why? I often face pose this question. Here, the answer is simple, this just demanded my attention. Why? Another difficult question. First up, I don't generally like non-rhyming verse. But the first line here demanded I read the second and the demands continued coming. That makes it good writing. I hope your days have gotten better. Keep faith and they will.

It is devastating for young people to have to go through life and see so many of the older folks that they love so much die from various illnesses, or from Alzheimer's or dementia. It's just a terrible thing for young people to see. I enjoyed your poem very much and it's very well written. Have a wonderful day and may God bless you. Patricia

Wow how heartbreaking death can be, especially when it takes your family that you have closest to you. What makes it even more sad is having to watch a disease slowly change them and take them away little by little.

This is hardcore and it would help to know more about you than what comes across in this poem. I noticed one revision that needs attending to, where you say two cruelties, will I ever recover it says will it ever recover instead. Otherwise, I didn't notice any typos or grammatical errors. Good luck with your future.

Wow! This poem has lots of strong emotions in it. So sorry for your losses.
I feel like poems are a good release. I wrote my poem Venom after I saw my husband and son fighting.
I hope you have a great rest of your day!!
I'm thinking of you!!

I, too, am Extra Familiar with Death. I am so sorry for your losses- so many large ones occurred before your brain was even fully developed!
I'm sorry about your Dad. Alzheimer's is a nightmare, a slow, oozing loss with flecks of fleeting light. Grief starts early!
I don't know why some of us go through Big Losses so soon in life. Sharing your experience helps others, though, this I know. There is something magical knowing someone else who Knows....the chances of me saying something ridiculous to you is much less, and your heart will ache for others who go through it for only their first or second time. We have a hard-earned empathy that money cannot buy. May the sun shine for you, on you, in you on your continued journey. Sorry that I didn't offer any critiques- I didn't notice it needed any because I connected straight with your heart as I read.

You've told your story in poem form and it is descriptive, expressive and incredibly sad. Nothing leaves a mark on our life like grief and it is the one thing we will all be scarred with before our life ends. Thanks for sharing such a personal piece of yourself.

I'm the oldest family member left in our family. I lost both my parents and my husband in the same year. Before that I lost 2 children and a grandson and cousins too numerous to count. It's scary to wake up in the morning and wonder if you are next. I understand the pain and grief written in your poem and I am sorry that you have to endure the sadness.
Hugs, Carol
