Night gently falls

The feeling of calmness to this was just what I needed. There was a level of history with this woman. She has lived a good long life, probably a mother, possibly a grandmother, had friends. Now as she ages, her role in her own life has dwindled. Her friends are passing. Her purpose in life, changing. Very mesmerizing. Gretchen

Thank you Gretchen. Yes, we go through the ages and stages, then comes the quiet contemplation, the acceptance, then the preparing. It is good to move into the next stage with peace. Thank you for a lovely review.

Thank you Gretchen. Yes, you are so right. Life changes with its ages and stages, and then I think there is that quiet restful time of remembering and processing, and preparing. Such a lovely and thoughtful review. Thank you!

"Night gently falls" I love the feel of evening and dusk.
"Quietly she sits, enjoys nature's whispered sounds and sights," I envy her.
"Twilight tiptoes in" Good use of personification.
"she awaits her coming night." I hope she's not waiting for her death, as this can be interpreted that way also.
A very good ABC poem. Good luck in the contest!

Yes, I did have her death in mind, but she is ready, peaceful and accepting. Thank you so much for this super review, and for the good wishes.

Who would have ever thought that getting older would open the covers to so many adventures we enjoyed in the days when there was tall fescue atop our heads not snow, but it's true, we do.

Thanks so much for reviewing Tom. She's meditating on the coming darkness - her death!

I enjoyed reading your poem. There is a serenity to it. I'm wondering if you found the picture first, then wrote a poem about it. I love "Twilight tiptoes in and fades". Well done.

Thank you so much for your positive review. Much appreciated. No, I wrote the poem first, and then had to find a suitable image. I chose this one because it reflected that soft almost blurred quality I wanted. Thanks again.

Loved your poem, Wendy! I think you created a lovely portrait of someone who has lived well and is unafraid of death. I especially liked the alliterative line: "Spirit now soothed, steady, and calm, she's strong; she gently sighs..." Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you. I hoped I wasn't overdoing the alliteration, but that is just what I wanted to say. I am so pleased you enjoyed this one. I haven't done much poetry this year, but I have had a new urge this last week or so. Thanks too for the good wishes.

I'm glad you're inspired to write poetry! To me they encapsulate a story briefly.

A very calming poem as I read and I believe it could have two meanings to it. Is she just enjoying the end of the day as the hustle and bustle fades into the calm silent night or does she think of her waning years and knows she is closer to the end?

You are right - it is layered, and has two meanings. Than you for your perceptive and encouraging words.

There is much calm and peace in your poem about the onslaught of night with two meanings here, the dark night and death. Life has to end for all of us and it is best to just embrace life when we have it and accept death when it comes. A poignant and pragmatic poem going into the night with a peaceful and calm attitude, love Dolly x x x
