Lucky for me, but not my cousins, I had an aunt who also was a working alcoholic. My cousins would always pour as much as they could down the drain or mix extra grapefruit juice as she had a few. When she was confined to a bed, she had a taxi driver deliver her the vodka and she'd give him a good tip. It's sad that the visiting nurses never once told anyone and they knew. Terrific story and a sad one to have to live through it as a young child and claim all the responsibility that it took. My brother also became an alcoholic and he was one of the mean drinkers. In the end he lost everything and died alone.
Hugs, Carol

Yes, my dad died alone with nothing as well. So, sad you had to go through that with family members as well. Thanks for the great review! I truly appreciate that Carol!

Thank you for sharing this story with us. I can't say I enjoyed reading because of the subject was too close to home. This is why I made the decision at a very young age that I would never drink. I do not and have a completely alcohol-free home.

A working alcoholic. In other words, my dad could get drunk at night and still get up and go to work early in the morning. (I recognize this. Sounds like my dad.)

It was very sad to see my father like that and I always wished I could help him. (comma after
like, you switched subjects)

When my mother was at work and my dad was home. It was like I had to babysit him (home, it )

The writer has skilfully explored some survivor baggage of living with an alcoholic, which is not easy. Such addictions require the individuals to need to want to change, but that can rarely happen. This story is demonstrates a excellent talent for descriptions of characters, the imagery is very realistic. Great writing.

This is a very heartfelt story. Having grown up with an alcoholic I truly understand what you went through. It is hard watching the person you love kill themselves slowly one drink at a time.

Like you say though, until they are ready to give up the alcohol they won't. It's a very powerful drug and one of the one's that can kill you if you don't detox in a hospital.
