LMAO Mrs KT earrings on your ass. Yes, you needed an Amaretto Sour make it a double. This is hilarious.
The fact that you are a shopaholic that keeps the store in business is something I relate to: my dad accused my mom of that very same thing LoL.
We used to keep the shopping bags in the trunk of the car and bring them in later when my dad wasn't home lol
Thank you for sharing

Yup.
That's me: earrings on my ass!
What a visual, eh, Judith?
I am honored by your exceptional rating and delightful review. I can certainly relate to keeping shopping bags in the trunk of my car and bringing them in later when my husband was otherwise engaged. But over the years, he has become used to my shopping delights, and he just shakes his head in wonder.
Wishing you and yours a most delightful Christmas!
Thank you!

One of the greatest gifts we can possess as humans is the gift of humility. Being able to laugh in the face of what may be a potentially embarrassing situation, the willing ability to forgive what may on the surface may appear to be an insult. Finally the gift of laughing at ourselves and our feelings of superiority when we are clearly shown to be just as mortal as everyone else around us. That is gift that is almost divine.

Comment from Gloria ....
This is a terrific true tale. Personally I think they should've arrested your sweater-coat for shop lifting. It's really hard keeping an eye on those things in the jewelry department.
A most entertaining story, and of course one would take it personal, because they were being personal. Anyway glad your survived what must've been a quite annoying experience.
I looked through the reviews from 2007 before I joined the site and the only member I recognized was Oatmeal.
A wonderful Christmas story and what a treat to read today. :)

Much appreciation, Gloria!
What an experience!
Younkers is no longer in business, but I still own the sweater, and once in a while, I run into a few of the salesclerks from that day as I go out and about my business!
So pleased you enjoyed!
Thank you!

This is very well written, and I should maybe give you a six as I really enjoyed this, but I try to give my sixes to the less proficient writers when they come out with something great. Don't worry, you're like Terry Broxson. I rarely give him sixes because he would collect all I have. You are a great writer, and this should be published. It would give a lot of readers a lift they really need at this time of the year. Merry Christmas.

Whew! Well, since this was written in 2007, I'm wondering if you still went back to the store and if those same sales ladies still worked there. What an ordeal. You described it all perfectly - both the physical and the emotional sensations!

Oh my gosh! This was hilarious. My mother was accosted by security in a store in the seventies. She was walking hand in hand with her grandson and she kept spotting a man and woman who were trailing her. Finally she stopped and asked them why they were following her. They pointed at her grandson and asked if she was going to be purchasing those hats. Hats? She looked down to see my nephew with three cowboy hats ostacked on his head. She yanked them off and tightened her grip on him with a resounding "No!". That must have been humiliating at best. Great story. Gretchen

Good Lord, all of this happened up in TC? The further north you go in Michigan the nicer the people are supposed to get. I can vouch for the storefronts there. They are interestingly unique.
Great write. Sad statement for the season. Glad you all ended with laughs. I do wonder how it would have resolved if you the lady if not found the earrings.
Too funny.
Merry Christmas

Diane, great story. The best part of the story is how easy it is to get caught up in everything but yet still to be able and stop and laugh at yourself, the situation, and the very real fact that everything is going to be okay. Terry.

Hello, Terry!
Good Grief!
This is the third time I have attempted to reply to your review! I don't know what is going on with my computer, but when I went to thank you as well as Douglas Goff, gremlins appeared each and every time!
Fingers crossed that this time my reply with go through!
And know for a certainty that I always laugh at myself... even if it hurts!
Wishing you and yours a beautiful and blessed Christmas!
Much appreciation!

You are welcome it came through just fine. I think it?s very cool you got more and higher reviews sixteen years later! Terry.

I was "wet behind the ears," when I posted this piece in 2007 = a member for only a few short months...
I have so enjoyed knowing that my debacle has brought joy to readers and resonated with them!
Thank you again!

The interesting thing is that the story had 31 reviews the first time, and 42 so far this time, and a bunch of sixes. I think that is a real testament to your writing. Terry.
-
Thank you, Terry!
Perhaps the readership sixteen years ago couldn't relate to my shopping predicament then... A number of "new" readers have mentioned that while they enjoyed my story, they only shop online... Online shopping wasn't really a "thing" back then...
Just so very appreciative that my story resonates with folks now...
As for my writing, it certainly has evolved over time.
Much appreciation!

Whether fiction or real life this story was a hoot and if I was an illustrator I could not do this story Justice

Diane, What a wonderful story! I really wanted to read on and join you for one of those amaretto sours or maybe two! You have such a gift for taking your reader right into the heart of Christmas and into that bustling department store with all those 'over-zealous' shoppers. This was obviously building up to some embarrassing incident but you were not going to be outsmarted by some temporary sales clerks. Love the release of laughter at the end! Thank you for sharing this faultless and engaging story. Debbie
