What a beautifully written free verse poem. It is filled with so much feeling and pain. It is also so educational. Every country has a part of their past that they are ashamed of. America has so much that I wasn't even aware of this problem. Please forgive me for being an igoranr American. Beautiful poem, Shirley

I am just a little familiar with the situation your talking abot but I can not imagine living through it. The thought makes me shudder almost as hard as the thought of Mary's life, mother of Jesus. Without hesitation I give you six stars or expressing, for all of us, the sorrow those mothers knew!

Beautiful, poignant write! I have seen this tragedy strike many, many people In our area, it is the Odawa and Ojibwa Native Americans who have so much trouble with `the system'.
In actuality, though, anyone who does not conform to the service provider system or even questions it can be subjected to this horrendous practice. I have seen Caucasian women who insisted on accessing help for their children have those children taken away from them because they were not helping their children. ?????????????
Truth.

This is such a heart wrenching poem. This has happened all over the world. I pray that this will never happen again. Well done. Jude

There have been groups of people throughout history who think they are the elite class and the best life for everyone is to be like them or be worthless. Great work keeping this tragedy in the public's eye.

Wow! Heartbreaking poetry, Marijke. I never knew this--Australia has been chosen as my final relocation. The words are well crafted and creative. Sorry you missed the contest.

I am sorry you missed the contest but glad you posted the story in verse, which needs to be re-told. We have similar chapters in our American history of mistreating our Native Americans and placing Japanese in internment camps. The picture you chose is perfect, and your fifteen lines of free verse quite touching and enhanced by your alliteration of "w's."
