Interesting poem and presentation; I'm assuming that there is a much deeper meaning for you than shows on the surface.

consuming minds: Bal (Baal) toucheth thy soul whore.
dark abyss: Ballim (Baalim) toucheth thy soul whore.

A very well written poem with vivid imagery and smooth flow of words. Very interesting descriptions with excellent repeating lines. Good choice of picture to accompany your poem.

Good and effective use of repetition. Interesting subject matter. Do you mean pentameter or is that an Americanized spelling of the word? Great poem. the above is just a question. Debbie

I know this is poetry (and pretty good poetry, I might add) but have you considered the fact that this could be lyrics to a song? (Sound heavy metal-ish, too!) LOL

Good job, Bicpen.

Babylon was significant during biblical times. The name appears 260 time in the King James version of the Bible. She has been associated with all kinds of evil as a city/nation. The only place I found her call a harlot she was called the mother of harlots.

Rev. 17:5 5 And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

The poem is interesting since Babylon, near what is now Bagdad, has played such a significant role throughout the history of the middle east. Of the verses, I'm sure every point you made can be documented. The graphics enhance the theme well. Curtis

I found your poem interesting from the point of view that the whore is alive and well on planet earth and we are sinking into the depths of Sodom and Gomorrah very quickly. Blessings, K.

I don't like the word whore or the contraction it brings. It is like saying that sexual prowess makes you a bad person. This is a well written poem. But the thoughts are so very judgmental. This is a good poem that I will take issue with... John

ps... Even the spell checker doesn't like the word...

Well a whore is a woman or maan that engages in sexually prostitution in the biblical sense and as Babylon is a power it is a personification of her illicit power that engages in spiritual immorality....

I am well aware of the meaning, and the biblical sense of this meaning. It is for me a misnomer. After all, those that wrote the bible had little to no education. but yet most people think the bible is so factual. How can anything be so factual that was written by uneducated individuals?
reply by the author on 21-Aug-2012
They were led by the Spirit my friend and some of them were actually some of the most educated men the world had to offer.
reply by Kingsland on 21-Aug-2012
First let me say that there was not any formal educational learning in those days. most learned how to read and write, only if their parents could do so. how you would know that the men that wrote the bible were some of the most educated men in the world is beyond me. You are putting them in the same field as Leonardo Divinci. Remember you said among the most educated in the world. I don't think so. Some of the most intelligent men in the world in those days would be equivalent to Einstein that is a stretch if ever heard a stretch. You are merely guessing. Historians have trouble with finding these things out. Are you a historian? You seem to be grasping at straws here. There were very few educated men in those days. Hell, mankind thought the world was flat. Enough said...

Only in your mind my friend...

...King Slomon, one of the gifted wisest men that ever walked the earth: Book written, Song of Songs and Ecclesiates.

...Moses: The first five books of the Old Testament.

....Paul the Apostle: One of the most learned me of the New Testament era books written see the letters in the New Tesatament.

The historical accuracy of the bible is second to none as reffered to in the chronological books such as Ezra and The book of Kings.

How about Daniel: He was taught in all the wisdom that the empire had to offer and was the third ruler of the Kingdom for his peculiar gift of wisdom and interpretation also he was an astute buisnessman when dealing with the providences of work related matters.
reply by Kingsland on 21-Aug-2012
I write about these things in my poetry. It doesn't make me one of the smartest men on this planet. A lot of the old testament has stories that were far fetched. Like the man that was swallowed by the whale and then lived to tell about it. That is not possible.
The old testament also degraded women. How is that intelligent. The bible has good things in it and it has a lot of fantasy in it as well. The bible is not at all accurate when it comes to historical facts. It is just a lot of stories written by uneducated men. The only education they really had was very limited to just about anyone in those days. There were no book stores. If there were any books at all. They were few and far between.
You are very diluted into believing in fantasy, of which the bible is full of. I still see the bible as a worthy teaching tool. But you need to be very frugal when reading it. So much of the bible is full of miss information. i know I'm not going to change your mind on this. But then again you're not going to change mine either. We will just have to agree to disagree... No need to be insulting

For what is right and what is wrong
in a world that changes its song
Each and every day where we belong

The only thing I know for sure
Is that I know nothing at all
For we grow old too soon and smart too late
All the real truth is hidden beyond the garden gate...
reply by the author on 21-Aug-2012
Nothing new under the sun, my friend...!

...and if I were you I' d check which garden gate you are entering, If I may be so bold...

...and quite frankly what you said to me was more of an insult than I ever gave you, my friend...?
reply by Kingsland on 21-Aug-2012
If I insulted you I apologize. I didn't believe I had done so. I don't believe that heaven and Hell exists. I know which gate I am venturing through. Christians all believe that their religion is the only true religion. How closed minded is that. That is like saying you're a know it all. It is saying, we as Christians are right and everyone else is wrong. I know this to be true, because I used to be a christian and then the light turned on and I became rational. I still say that you have the right to believe as you will. But christians all believe that unless you believe as they believe you're doomed to fry in hell. Well it doesn't exist and if it did exist. When you die you leave your body here on earth, so what is there to burn...

Well Babylon is the whore, but I don't know if she brings that on to the people, or if the people are the one that brings her on. Well done.

This is a fine poem written in pentameter. It has a good effect. Might be a script for a play.Old testament stories are very powerful and make for good enjoyable writing.Good picture to accompany your words.

I didn't understand anything about this poem. The words did rhyme but they seemed to be a bit forced. The poem it self was about a where but that's all I can gather.
