Well this was certainly a horror story, first the terrorist bombs, then deprivation, then the pet dog, then mum! This was well written, the characters were believable, and I guess the rest of what they did was too. Thank you, Roy. As you know, there is very little back story you can use in flash fiction, so you have to get right down to the meat of the story when writing one (no pun intended).

Some family meal, I was thinkin'.
No way that kid's not gunna need a shrink when the world improves. And, isn't his father going to be happy when he finds out about the dog?

I was eating while I read this. Now, I'm a touch queazy. This is a great story, well balanced with backstory, dialogue and tight prose.

The ending completes the horror of the cockroach, rat diet, appropriately. And your assorted illustrations ensure that the stomach stays weak.

The revenge is total and gross, but that's what you'd hoped, I suspect.

Yes, I did go a bit out of my way to try and make the good readers here feel as if they needed a shower and some antacids after reading this, Mark. That was my intent anyhow. I' very glad you enjoyed the story, and thanks for the fantastic feedback, my friend. :}
