Ouch, Dean! First of all, I thought my dang computer was messed up when the beeping started and quickly shut it down!!! 8-)
Then I remembered whose post I was reviewing. You devil you. I had to laugh.
And then... your story was way too scary and realistic because I'll never forget my friend who had a c-section telling me that she wasn't totally deadened and she could FEEL the cutting...
Hope I don't have to have surgery anytime soon! 8-)

E-w-w-w-w, that's a horrible thing your friend had happen to her, boxergirl.
I had a similar experience myself when I awoke during surgery. I could hear a flurry of activity -- doctors and nurses talking, machines, and monitors going off -- but I felt no pain, only the tugging and pulling sensation as the doctor opened up a pocket in my chest. As soon as I spoke, everything got as quiet as church during prayer. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery. Not a fun experience.

Anyhow, I've rambled enough. I really appreciate your review. Feedback like yours is invaluable to me as I try and continue the series. Much obliged...~Dean :)

Hi Dean,

Oh, dear, it seems your protagonist got herself in a fix, LOL.

By way of critique: I think this one needs a bit more storyline. How and/or why she ended up on the table. Why were those doctors going to torture her.

Perhaps you could achieve this by alluding to a very unusual hospital or having the doctors monsters behind their masks. Just my opinion.

Hugs,
Lou

Thanks, Lou, and your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated. Keep in mind that this is micro and flash fiction, which generally translates to one hundred words or less. This story comes in at just under 100 words, at 96. If I didn't covey my message well enough in that frame, then I simply didn't do my job properly.

Thanks very much for the awesome feedback...~Dean

Criminal Minds meets Josef Mengele - a touch of Sweeney Todd with input from The Blacklist. Night Gallery and Hitchcock had nothing like this for pure, elemental terror.

I love these pearls that stop you from breathing with one simple sentence. You have a true gift my dear Master of the Macabre. J

Thanks so much, Jean, and I'm really happy to know that you think so at least. That is enough for me, being the mulch-talented author that you are yourself.

Thanks for the complimentary comments, and for the six stars, too! You've made my day as always, my friend. :)

Perhaps it takes a somewhat 'scarred' psyche to truly see all the nuances encompassed in your offerings - for me they scream out and shake my shoulders....

Wow, Dean, this is a horror at its best. Or shall we say, worst? I cannot even imagine the scrubbed monsters cutting on the conscious person. Eek... A fantastic horror installment, Dean, though I would like some clarification on it being a muoti-author book that any premium FS can contribute to?
A ferric picture intensifies the effect.

Blood curdling. Right up your alley (smile).

Any FanStory member can add a chapter to the book, Yelena, by selecting the "add a chapter to this book" tab, and posting their story. It's really that simple. I've only asked that the stories be flash horror fiction, or micro horror fiction, which simply means that the story is under one hundred words.

This particular terror tale would fall under the category of micro horror fiction, as it is just 96 words.

Thanks so much for your fantastic feedback and review. I sincerely appreciate it, as always. :)

Terrifying. Your words bring home to me my worst fears. Perhaps the worst fear of anyone or perhaps the worst is the fear of being buried alive.

Thank you very much for your review and comments, petalangela. I actually have awakened during an operation once. I felt the doctors tugging and pulling, but thankfully there was no pain. When I spoke and said, "Uh, hey... guys? Am I supposed to be awake yet?", everything got deathly quiet in the room. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery. It was terrifying, and thank goodness I was able to mumble the words with a tube sticking down my throat, lol! ~Dean

Oh wow. Not good now I am terrified. I had all my teeth out with injected anaesthetic and it wore off I refused any more jabs and the two were taken out while my mouth was live I am perhaps too dumb to feel pain. My jab also wore off during an eye op. I was asked of I drank heavily because that affects it but I don't drink. I need a heart op but I have REFUSED. To go under again Petal. Ps I love reading you submissions

That what I was undergoing when it happened to me, heart surgery. They were implanting a defibrillator in my chest. I'm really happy to know you're enjoying these tiny tales of terror. Hopefully, there will be more soon to come.

    Take care, penalangela...;) ~Dean

Hi Dean,

Another good entry into the anthology.

This is a classic story well told. The style is quite simple for this one which is just as chilling.

Nice addition

Thanks, G-Man, and I've made this a book which anyone here can contribute to, if they like. I hope one day you will decide to contribute your own tiny tale of terror to the book.

    Much appreciated, my friend...~Dean

This is an absolutely terrifying post from the author here. This is so bad that I could almost believe that it could happen. This would make a great premise for a movie. Well done yet again.

Thanks, Thomes, and I actually have awakened while being operated on. It's when I had the defibrillator implanted in my chest. I spoke, the room went dead silent, and the next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room. There was no pain involved, but I was horrified to learn I'd awakened during surgery. I barely remember it... ~Dean

Hey, Dean...

Well, that nurse is a real keeper. So full of compassion.

I have thought about people who have been knocked out, but still fee the pain but can't say anything.

It's sort of like being buried alive. I'm sure you remember Vincent Price in 'The Pit and the Pendulum.' Freaky, like before Chuckie or Freddie Kruger came to life.

As always, a great story and artwork.

Hang in there, my friend.

Cheers & Blessings

Thanks, Roy, that is very kind of you to say. I do like to think I'm very well tapped in to what scares people. I have been pretty much since the day of my own near death experience. It's really strange how it happened that way.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story, and I certainly appreciate your review. :)
