Hot Dogs, French Fries, Lemonade!
An ode to a hot dog stand.130 total reviews

Hi Andre,
I would've liked to meet your mom,
to eat her treats with much aplomb,
all from a single lemon tree-
She was the best mama she could be because
each time you went to Skooby's, the best
was what there was to eat. Often, I'd like to
perhaps guess it was a test to see
if those Hollywood tourists ought resist
pointing at your mama, your siblings, & you
Back in the day, my mama lived in a different time.
Hot dogs, lemonade, and French fries were hard to come by.
Troops overseas got 'Spam' and 'M&M's'.
Prejudice and racism were both a rampant disease,
as virulently uncomfortable as Ebola or S.T.D.'s.
Today, the tide continues with our country's immigrant parade-
Why not embrace and invite them all to Skooby's for some HOT DOGS! FRENCH FRIES! LEMONADE!
(I'm touched is all by this nostalgic place I've never seen or set foot into.
I'm awfully lucky to get a can of Bush's baked beans, & as for the Hebrew National hot dogs I consume, they don't come with a bun or condiments but are eaten straight from the package when not heated up from the hot plate in my room.)

Oh, thank you, Shane, for your generous, creative review. You should post this poem! It delighted me. I especially loved this section:
Prejudice and racism were both a rampant disease,
as virulently uncomfortable as Ebola or S.T.D.'s.
Today, the tide continues with our country's immigrant parade-
You tell it like it is and bring your poem to a rousing conclusion:
Why not embrace and invite them all to Skooby's for some HOT DOGS! FRENCH FRIES! LEMONADE!
Thank you for sharing your most original, generous, six star review.

Good for you!! This is a wonderful poem. (I do not consider it humor, however.)
It is poignant and brilliant. In addition, you perform it very well. Congratulations. The use of colors in the poem is especially good. Yellow, red. Your dear mother who called herself "Yeller Gal". Truly this is the way to relish a memory.

What a nice memory piece! It was so easy to visualize this place that conjures up all sorts of memories, with me, more fried clams and fries.
Your mom's cooking struck a cord too; especially lemon meringue pie and lemonade.
Very nicely done indeed!

Not well versed on types of poetry but this appears to be a "tone poem" ? Anyway, the imagery is spectacular. Great descriptors to take the reader to that time and place. Best wishes.

Thank you, Bard's Bride, for your generous, six star review of my "tone poem." I wanted the written word to emulate the spoken of my performance and to evoke my experience dining at Skooby's. Thanks again.

Sweet post with lots of sensory to put the reader right there in the scene. Love the excellent photographs and the way you used spacing and font to enhance the descriptions.
Only one thing that I'm mentioning just in case - And memories of... As is, these memories are also something you dined on, as the verse is not a complete sentence on its own. (I'm figuring you meant it that way, and it's fine with me.)
All the best.

Yes, Kathleen, I dined on memories as well. Food triggers such associations. Food is more than just food. It is the loving hands that prepared it, the occasions it is served, and the people who share it with you. Thank you for your generous review.

Marvelous, Sis Cat;
-and I also see that you won the contest for a valid without mentioning an animal or a person. Congratulations as you definitely met the requirements as I don't think I could possibly write without mentioning an animal or a person. And you did it so well as you spark a memory of that lemonade stand that sold hot dogs and fries so well.
-Great imagery of the lemon tree in your backyard and the lemon meringue pies associated with it. It had a little story in the background that helped with reading your poem.
-The great color arrangement of a lemony background and bright and vibrant colors to voice your happiness and joyfulness which represents the time you had there, having lemonade.
- Thanks for sharing and take care and have a good one and again congratulations.

Thank you, Alex, for your generous, six star review and congratulations. This poem was my first win on FanStory, and I enjoyed performing it at poetry open mics. Yes, I wanted to do something different than an ode to an animal or person. It paid off.

Fantastic, as it is really good. And again, congratulations.
