It would be shocking for anyone who had never been exposed to such brutality to witness a man brutalizing his own family. They take their anger out on the weak and helpless and believe they deserve it. How horrible it would be to live under those conditions. Are they there to save this wife and son from a violet husband/father? Well done Sandra. :) Nancy

Thank you, Nancy, for your lovely review. No, there is a lot more going on that has to be stopped. Gladys and Tommy are important to the plot but it's not about the way women were treated back then, it's something worse, should it be allowed to happen. There, that's going to get you thinking! lol. Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

What a great chapter! We so take it for granted that we women have a voice these days, but as Veronica says, the abuse of women is still going on - all behind closed doors. I just wish there were more Mildreds and Veronicas around to encourage them to fight back!
I can't wait to read on.

A great chapter Sandra. It was a terrible moment of recovery for all the characters. Tommy was worried about his mother Gladys, who was worried about him as well as Mary. Veronica and Mildred were remembering Sir John and his actions towards women. Thank goodness we (women) have advanced in the world. I for one am not sure if I could have survived either time without being arrested for cruelty or murder. Hugs to you my friend for a chapter well done, thanks so much for sharing. Great reading flow, fantastic dialogue and just the right hint of mystery.

I know I couldn't have survived in those days. They were pretty tough women to have put up with it. They counted as nothing more than a slave until the suffragettes started fighting back. It still carry's on in some countries, even in our own behind those closed doors. Thank you for another lovely review, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

It is horrible the way women were treated. Unfortunately, it happens far too often today. I can't wait to see where you take this. It is very good writing and is a story that needs to be told.

I know, all that work the suffragettes did; I think they would be appalled to see what still happens today over a 100 years later. Thank you, Barbara for another lovely review. I'll be looking for yours now. :)) Sandra xx

Good continuation Sandra,

I like this 'new' Mildred, she has something about her all right...lol

I held the make-shift bandage - makeshift could be a single word here.

strength to keep taking the beating's he gives her - just a plural here, beatings.

Check Mildred's speech for you/yeh, I think you use both a couple of times.

Then we said our goodbye's - no need for the apostrophe, goodbyes.
