Thank you for saying this My Dearest Lady... Do you know what really heats me under the collar? The tearing down of all the memorials down your way. All the Civil War Memorials and such. They're suddenly offensive. They weren't so offensive before, why are they now? I think it's sad that people can't see history for the sake of history. You know what? These were the people who were here in this part of the country. This is what they wanted, this is why, this is what happened and this is why it was right or wrong. These are the things that begin discussions. Ripping them down and trying to erase it and pretend it never happened isn't doing anything to help... is it? Now, we'll be doomed to repeat the problem.

Amen!! Alleluia!! What is with people? I don't even know... and this is exactly what I was addressing: FORGETTING is NOT the answer....if history teaches us anything, it should be THAT!! But, for those that wish to rise to power in ways that history has shown 'worked back then', then the populace must FORGET 'back then'.... Thank you for such a wonderful review, Lady S -- those stars from you mean the world! :) :) Take care up there! ;) Yvette

A very well-written poem about the horrors of war that influence so many lives not only for the duration of the war but for decades thereafter and for many generations.

I loved the sentiments here Yvette and the first stanza is gripping and smoothly written.
The meter lost its way by the third stanza which needs some adjustment to flow more smoothly.
Suggestion for this line:
"voiceless shouts (set) on stubborn lips,". Remove (set)
Good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

Thank you for the wonderful review, Dolly, and the awesome assistance! ;) I went back in this morning and changed that and smoothed out a few more 'catches' I thought were there... if you have a chance, I would love to know what you think. However, I realize you have a life! ;) :) Take care, ma'am, and have a great one! :)

I like the way the first line of all the verses bar the last begin with 'Within these walls...'. It helps to tie the verses together. 'Youthful dreams unrealised' and 'family hopes now vaporized' - very powerful images. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for this, it's very honoring to those who gave their lives. What more could they have sacrificed? I come from a military family losing a stepbrother to Agent Orange related cancer. He laid his life down, a very brave soul. So many like him. The was one great entry and I wish you well in the upcoming contest, Yvette.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sal xo

Honoring our heroes and making the horrors of war real so that, perhaps, they may not be repeated...it is the least we can do. :) ;) ;) Good to hear from you again, Lady Sal -- so appreciate your support! ;) Take care out there and enjoy the week! ;) Yvette

Maybe it's a boy thing for I still love to visit war museums now and can spend hours reading, gazing and imagining what went on and and how things unfolded. We have a war exhibition in Wellington which was put together by Sir Peter Jackson of - The lord Of The Rings fame, it covers the events leading up to(the causes and reasons) the conflicts, battles and heroes(young boys love Heroes) and during World War One. I loved it.
Or Maybe it's because I'm ex military myself( four years in the British Army). Either way they are fascinating places to visit : ))
Very nicely put together Yvette, a great read friend.

Thank you, Hitch -- your words are a balm to my worries... I was so very worried that, in this politically-charged climate in which we seem to be immersed over here, this offering would be taken the wrong way.... :) :) You have also given a warmth to some of the tears that threatened when I wrote some of those lines.... when we would visit the museums when the boys were younger and even as they grew up, I would have to really hold onto my emotions walking through some of those exhibits and low-lit hallways. Please know that your comments are so very appreciated.... and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE to the Crown (know I'm not British, but your service should be acknowledged. Period.) :) ;) Here's sending some smiles back over/down there to you for the week ahead! ;) :) Take care! ;) Yvette
P.S. Noticed the marquis today: CONGRATULATIONS!! Was certainly WELL-DESERVED!! ;) :) :)

Great tribute to our military men who died so others might live in peace. I like the rhyme of unrealized and vaporized.
first blooded by innocent hands <-- Did you mean to type bloodied here?

"They Never Forget, To Never Relive" is a well-written and thought-provoking piece. This talented poet told it as it is. To me, this is a six, but I'm never given enough of them.. I look forward to seeing your next post.
