I really love this poem! I showed it to my mom and she was impressed with it as well. The flow is excellent and the ideas move steadily from one to another. I saw no mistakes in it and there is nothing I would change about it. I really appreciated the message and to me personally, it meant a lot. It truly is a comfort that pain here has a higher meaning yet to come. Great job on this and good luck in the contest! - Ashley

I found this to be quite beautiful, both in content and presentation. It is rather profound as well. I especially enjoyed the next to last verse. It sounded so wise and unselfish to me. Really a lovely poem in every way. Good luck in the contest. MM

If one sees His plan, understands it and appreciates the sacrifices and hardships that could come their way. The rewards that await one at the end would be worth all the pain and suffering.
One's faith would have to be steadfast and unwavering.
I enjoyed both poems and I loved your choice of accompanying art.
Good Luck!

To know sadness, disappointment, heartbreak etc. is to experience the building blocks of character. Show me someone who has never suffered and I will show someone who is shallow and a prime candidate to be destroyed by the very first challenge they ever face that cannot be avoided.

The above christological chronicle is certainly seasonally-appropriate. It is also quite consistent and well-controlled, in terms of diction, meter, and rhyme. Two corrections: In the final line of stanza one, the transitive verb "lay" should be the intransitive verb "lie," if, of course, the sentence is in the present tense. Also, lines one and two of stanza constitute a sentence-fragment, where the author probably should have used an introductory subordinate clause. The solution is to replace the period after "bled" either with a comma, or perhaps with a semicolon. On a more positive note: The oceanic simile/analogy in lines line and two of the final stanza veritably pulses with deep, heart-felt emotion. Five Stars of David for this tribute to the King of Israel!

To my fellow-servant:
Pax vobiscum, as we said in the pre-Vatican I Catholic Church. These days, I worship as an Episcopalian. Be well.

What an absolutely beautiful poem, and I too love Kahlil Gibran. Your poem makes me think of his famous quote. There must be something strangely sacred in salt. It is in our tears and in the sea. I love your line, yes tears are good and have much worth. Your entire theme of tears and pain running through the poem is very striking. It is amazing how differently I feel about things like this since I hit 60. And with his grace, I saw the plan. This is an amazing piece of work. I think I will be reading it several times to get its full effect.

A wonderful thought wonderfully expressed. I enjoyed both the thought and the expression, as your words painted a picture to illustrate your point. Good luck in the contest.

A very well-written heartfelt inspiring spiritual poem inspired byKhalil Gilbran's poem, A Tear and a Smile. Tears of sorrow and pain cleanse the soul and renew our strength to continue life's journey day after day.

Great job with this very well written spiritual poem that appears to be sincere. You have an excellent flow of thought and rhythm and rhyme to your choice of words. Just wondering if you can honestly say that the most intense times of suffering in your life were really worth it? Meaning not just by faith but actually being at peace about it.

I have been suffering through intense pain for the past serve years due to cancer which spread from my breasts to every bone in my body. I offer up this pain (I have never touched pain meds as I rely on meditation and contemplative prayer) daily on behalf of those who have nobody to pray for them, for the conversion of sinners, and as reparation for all of the offenses committed daily against heaven. Jesus told Lucia He offers three graces in this life - to be sinless (which I am not as are most of us), to be able to fill the world with acts of mercy and kindness (which I practice through my writing and helping other terminally ill patients get through with dignity), and most of all suffering which I am grateful to accept in the hopes my meager struggles will inspire others to believe in Him, trust in Him, adore Him, and love Him. I am completely at peace in His loving arms and know that He never hands me more than I can handle at any given time. Hope that is a satisfying answer for you.
