Hi Nomi,
firstly let me say... "love your heart!"
I relate to this poem, as I know, so do a lot of people who have a loved ones, relatives, or friends with this insidious disease. In my case, it's my father... so yes, especially that last line becomes more poignant and closer to home.
Loved reading this poem... and like you and your wife, My wife and I have also watched this classic movie more than a few times... never fails to get me!
With our thoughts we create...
a clear path to the end.
Kind regards,
James.

I lost my father to the disease also. sadly it was not until I had posted the poem that I realized that I was partially telling my own story.

My Father has been going for near on eight years, which they say is pretty rare for this state and progression. Sorry to hear about your father, I guess this was something a lot closer to your heart than first realised? Thanks for sharing such a caring and well crafted poem, I did enjoy it. Regards, James.

What a beautiful and tragic poem at the same time. I've never dealt with this condition personally, but these words seem appropriate for what loved ones must go through.

Thank you. As one who has lost both parents to it. The words are accurate. I cannot imagine anyone who truly love the afflicted not feeling this way.

Good job of relating the frustration associated with this disease. It is a faithful partner indeed that will stay with his love even when she no longer recognizes him.

Love has a way of locking one in place. If you do not feel this way it does not mean that you do not love the afflicted one, it only means that you have already released the person and decided to get on with living.

Alzheimer's steals us from ourselves, a stunning cruelty. This poem powerfully depicts some of the forms this robbery takes, and describes also the wound suffered by the final caregiver.

This is a good poem about how the ne never stops loving someone despite this horrible syndrome. It is true that when a spouse dies a part of you dies too. That shows true deep love. It was easy to understand even without the description and notes
Keep writing and stay healthy

This is an outstanding poem. It certainly hits home with me, as I watched my grandmother decline with Alzheimers and watched my grandfather look after her with love and devotion. Really wonderful poem. Thank you!

Thank you. It is wonderful and reassuring to a writer to know that something he wrote touched someone.

As a statement of true love, this is second to none. Alzheimers and other forms of dementia are ghastly to contemplate both in oneself and perhaps even mor so in a loved one.

Who can argue with that - a promise of true, deep, unrepentant love. Your thoughtful word choices are what make this work so well. I can't think of many things more frightening than suffering like this - except doing it alone. Beautifully written.
