Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a beautifully written poem. It has a nice flow and rhyme scheme. I yearn for those bright childhood years where troubles once we'd share, awash are great past memories of the dear folk who would care. Beautiful read my friend.

It is sad how many childhood friends are lost in the shuffle of growing up and moving around.
It seems looking and/or getting ahead is more important to some than looking behind and treasuring relationships.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Roy,
You missed an "O" in the title in the word "Childhood."
I agree it used to be a simpler time. We never locked our front door, of course, we didn't have anything worth stealing because we were poor, LOL.

I feel your pain. My children rarely meet up with other kids in the neighborhood, and I find it strange. When I was younger, I'd be gone for hours at a time roaming the streets, returning to eat and for bed. Those days are gone.
Thanks for sharing.

Mine childhood days were like that too, Roy. You could go out leaving your doors unlocked and friends would just pop in and out. Today, some don't ever get to meet their neighbours, you'd never leave the door open, and definitely not unlocked, when you go out. It's sad, isn't it? Your poem left me with many memories. My sons had that freedom, too, but they are far more protective of their children. We had it best, my friend. Love and hugs. Sandra xx

I agree with the thoughts you expressed. While my childhood was not great, we were free to play safely outside, and there was no focus on possessions - we had very few, but it was always sufficient for our needs. Very well written.

Oh, I so agree. And meeting strangers on journeys, where we actually talked to each other. Now your neighbour on a long train journey doesn't even say hello... We have all become prisoners of our imagined fears and reals obsessions with mobile phones and other solating devices. Blessings Kate xx

Another poignant and important message through your poetry which shines with your personality. Even I can remember playing outside far more often when I was younger despite my younger age. My brothers loved using me as a "crash test dummy and "stuntman." They built a ramp when we lived in Alaska as there were two streets in our neighborhood that sloped downhill probably about a 40% grade. A cul-de-sac was just over halfway down. They placed the ramp there so I could just veer over to it on my little purple, black and green bike. The ramp wasn't very big but with the downhill speed it was going to be a big jump anyway. I hit it perfectly and yanked up on the handlebars for that extra "boost." Next thing I knew I was holding the separated handlebars and lay flat on, but the bike was about 15 feet away and we had to give it our all to pull the hollow tube out of the earth that mated the handlebars to the frame. I hit so hard it dug in about 6 inches.

Sorry for the ramble. Your poem is excellent! Thanks for sharing it!

My childhood was like yours... It FC on n the morning, no worries, safely free to roam and play until dinner!

Very nice. Nearly all your lines are fourteen syllables...

YEs. Some older culture are still having these traditions. They do care about each others more but they also gossip about each other. My son and his girlfriend visited Pakistan last May so she could shoot a film there. They said that the community culture enticed them.

Well done.
