I'm not very good at setting clear goals so perhaps that's why life was so full of uncertainties when I was younger. Loved the essay though, and found some great stuff I can use. I loved the writing on "Ground Hog's Day." It's one of my favorite movies. It would be great if we had as long as we liked to get our lives right. Great eassy.

The Groundhog Day repeating itself is just a metaphor to me for our own day - every day. Thanks...John

Knowing your true self is important to understand why you choose the goals you want to achieve.

Many people think money will solve all their problems and it might make you momentarily happy.

This was an interesting read.

John, this is an excellent entry for the Non-Fiction contest, and I'm sure it will be a strong contender in the competition. A great condensed primer for self improvement though the achievement of goals. Many of your tenets are also covered in The Landmark Forum, which you may be familiar with. I feel the reference to Ray Murray's character and transformation could have been condensed further so as to no detract from your own presentation. All in all, an excellent write, and my best wishes for a win, my friend.

One typo : Goal[s] are prioritized by value

doing what we born to (left out a word, were?)
Goal are prioritized by (Goals)
I enjoyed your essay, but the Groundhog Day part almost became an aside to me. We share some common background. I was a systems analyst, have done sales training and am now a V.P., Sales. Regards, Bill

I liked you essay on Goals. For someone like myself, I need to read this sort of thing and take it seriously. I'm not a big "self" help person, but I do like to set-up goals. And I did see the movie Groundhog- with Bill Murray, I loved that movie, now I will look at it a bit differently.

Good topic. I agree totally and I think that goals, even the undefined ones, are responsible for all the good and evil in all of mankind.

("We are not doing what we born to do. We were born acorns and striving to be sequoias.")------
----And here in lies the thrust of our being. To be focused on self-centeredness and the accumulation of materialistic pleasures, or, to live simply and honorably, with humility while serving man-kind.

("It is important to know that, once a goal is achieved, it will get replaced by a new one.")------
-----Gotta disagree with your assumption here. Once one achieves all their self-interest goals of wealth and materialistic accumulations of things, then one is faced with placing value on life itself. No guaranties on how that goes, think of how common depression is in this advanced modern world.

"We are always in a State of Being in the Process of Becoming. Our being is continually seeking balance when setting goals and "comes to be" a different state by executing a process. This goal achievement process can only be executed in the Here and Now. We cannot work in this process yesterday or tomorrow. Since it is always here and now, we have already achieved the goal when we commit our state of being to realize the process."

You ave stated the ultimate "Be Where Your feet are" principle.

Some nice accomplishments. Be proud. I'm good as an Analyst too. I think goals are prioritized by sticking to the task at hand, delegating appropriately, good time management skills and following innovative methodologies. But I like what you have to say. It sounds good. And I hope Hulu.com has that movie, "All I Need Is Love," because I'm scheduling it into my weekend. Good luck on the Non-fiction Essay Contest. Have a great weekend!
