Your poem about President Kennedy is really great! I wish I had a sixth star to give you! I remember that day clearly. I was in 5th grade. They sent the school kids home early. The shots fired and he slumped over.
When they said he was dead people were crying. They played all of it over and over that entire weekend on all three channels that we had back then.
Your poem is as though you were standing right there and watch the whole thing happen. Great job!

Hello . livelylinda

I say you did very well telling us of President Kennedy's assassination in four free style describing how the final announcement said---

he is dead
from a bullet to his head

a woman screamed
and the world began to bleed.

At the time that this happened I was a twenty year old Air Force Airman, stationed in North Dakota at a Strategic Air Command Base, guarding a B52 Aircraft. When we got the news one of our members siad with a sneer: "Good, I never liked him anyway." It took a shouted command fro our superior member to stand down! to prevent many of us from putting a bullet or two into him. When he realized the seriousness of what had just happened, he quickly apologized stating that he was only kidding and did not mean what he had said. I will never forget that day and how I felt, then and even now.

Those tragedies remain with us. It was such a shock. I remember how quiet it was for several days. Thank you, nomi338, for reading and commenting. Linda

This is an event in history that marked everyone alive at that time. I remember it well although I was only ten and lived in Toronto Canada at the time. We all mourned. Well done. All the best, Laura.

Very sad but true poem. You expressed the world's feelings perfectly. It did very well in each verse you told each part of the story precisely. Very well penned. Thank you for sharing. ~Brenda

Your poem is well-written and dramatically moving and descriptive. I was eleven at the time. I remember thinking it wasn't real at first. I remember seeing the news report that showed JFK Jr. saluting at the funeral. Good job of conveying the world-wide horror at the time.

Most people who are old enough to remember the JFK assassination, recall what they were doing when they got the news, and their reaction to it.

Your poem speaks of reactions that appear to be fiction, rather that what actually was occurring after that agonizing event.

Also, you should consider editing your notes that say you decided not to write about the JFK assassination.

The reactions of which I speak of this day were what I saw or felt or read about. There is NO fiction. I do not have to edit my notes, you just need to read them more carefully. What I stated was that I originally was going to write only one poem about the assassination but there was too much info so wrote several. Your negativity is quite appalling. I hope you begin to have great days. Linda

I'm sorry you took offense at my review, Linda. A few minutes ago, I tried to see your post again, to remind me of it's specifics, and found that you have withdrawn it.
Nevertheless, I can assure you I believed your recollection was inaccurate. (The day of the assassination, I broadcast the details on a radio station.) What You interpret as negativity was my honest reaction to what you had written, certainly not suggesting you were lying (if that's why you're upset). Again, I did not intend to insult you. I write review almost every day, and if you look at a random sample of them, you'll see I'm not the kind of person you think I am.

A very well-written heartfelt poem about the shock and confusion everyone experienced the moment the shots were fired when JFK was assassinated. I was only four years at the time and only learn about this in school.

this Poem captures so well the emotions people felt that day, such an unbelievable and unforgettable tragedy. He was dead from a bullet to the head. The world did indeed start to bleed.

Talk about bringing back memories. Not one that is fond for sure. Great presentation of an awful historical event. Well done and thank you for bringing it back to me.
